You ran into a classless person. Best is that ignore, “ I don’t discuss my personal items with strangers”.

A two toned 36mm DJ is probably my favorite Rolex. I’d consider it in 2024 to be one of the more humble representations of the brand.

I would have said “I’ve had it over 15 years” and turned away.
I guess I’m a heathen but there’s no AP or Patek that I desire.

Kinda sounds like he said something about your watch and you said something about his car. How is both conducts any different? Instead of rising above it you doubled down to that level of idiotic behavior. Your from Texas, a “Well bless your heart” would have been sufficient if you felt the need to comment.

Agreed. The whole "I'll bet I'm a better car tinkerer than you" fell flat for me.

I know it’s drilled into our heads from school the “I don’t care who started it”…he started it. This dude is rude, and he chose to create an issue by coming out of the blue and insulting a stranger’s watch (and, actually, intelligence and judgment, i.e. OP is a fool for falling for hype). That’s why it’s different. I do care who started it.

I know we all like to rise above it, but at a certain point, there’s nothing wrong with bullies getting some push-back from time to time. I think that’s a major appeal of “Curb Your Enthusiasm”: Larry pokes back.

The Audi comment was perfect, as it was basically symmetrical to the original comment. No offense intended, no offense taken, right?

I agree.

Sometimes people just need to be put in their place.

The most effective way to do that would be to just ingore it completely

But I suppose that approach wouldn’t help a bruised ego

Not necessarily. Ignoring it completely is a sign of fear or weakness, or perhaps just not being witty enough to have a humorous come back.

Right on! It's stupid comments like that from people that I just don't understand... like how is that at all supposed to come across as NOT condescending. Move along, pal. Love that you got the last word, OP.

Likely another guy that was told no at an AD, or, isn’t a watch guy and finds the amount we spend to be absurd. I have no time for them.

Dude wants to talk about hype, while wearing AP RO??

OP's car comment was spot on. That's what we call "Checkmate"

I would definitely add a PP to my collection, they’re as difficult to get as Rolex. And they’re definitely a beautiful watch, one to own for a lifetime.

Pretty sure the guys was just jealous.

I’d have just nodded and moved on with my day. Commenting on his car means you have now stooped to his level.

HEB is a great grocery store. Sorry that some people are jerks... it just isn't worth your time trying to figure them out.

Also, I trust that the ice cream you bought was Blue Bell!

Cheers!

The irony of this situation is, you are wearing a watch that probably trades below retail, whereas his watch currently sells for multiples of retail.

And he is the one chastising you for buying into hype? That's hilarious!

He tried to take the high ground, but didn’t realise he was more guilty of his supposed hype crime than you. Some people make me laugh…

Just a random encounter with an idiot. We've all had it at one time or another. It wasn't really about the watch. Sounds like you took the bait.

True (sigh) but at least half was made here ....i dont like turbo engines or in a hotter than hell place like the Houston area stuck in traffic for hours creates more heat. I like the Dodge v-6 3.6 its been around a long time, 295 hp is peppy even for a hog like my jeep...my younger brother just lost his job after 17 years in engineering dept at dodge. Like he says its a crime what has happened pushing fiats like its US made. I (we) get a huge discount on their line up.....my GC cost just 28k new.....my brother says if you buy another car which i hope and pray never happens again, go Toyota. He is trying to get a job with them now but not crazy over moving to CA.

I think Toyota's are good I own a tundra and tacoma that last along time. except the newer2022 and up tundra engine recall. ,,,, never would buy one anyway like you mentioned no small engine with turbo not in a tundra.

Toyota are for owners who keep their vehicles for 10 years 200k.

Isn’t there some saying like …

“you buy a Land Rover to get you into the bush, you buy a Toyota to take you there and get you back out”
