It’s hard to take this seriously because there are indeed some truly iconic companies that are legitimately on a decline. And Rolex is not one of them.

Let’s look at Nike, Disney, Intel, and Boeing. Look at these charts. And this is while the Dow and S&P 500 are at all-time highs. All these companies were American icons just a few years ago.

Meanwhile, Rolex remains the king of all Swiss watch brands. That’s not changing anytime soon.

Sadly Youtube is full of vapid nobodies like this guy making a channel and trying to suck up your viewing time with a stream of controversial BS that they hope will get you to click.

As has been summarized above, you have bad judgement if you think the video is a good take, because the guy is clearly talking controversial BS for the sake of clicks.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who saw Rolex trip going into 31 Flavors. It's not serious or anything like that

‘Devil’s advocate’?

As already mentioned this YT page posted TWO videos.

This is the other one where they list all the good things about Rolex.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nmYX9xx4KbY

I’m not saying it’s clever or new, just everyone stop taking the bait on the one video…

Bingo. He is too good and smart to own a Rolex.

This is the guy sitting by himself at the end of the bar that says he can pick up any woman in the club and knows more than the coach on the TV behind the bar playing in the background.

Everyone has an opinion…

Disagree about the “fall.” Rolex is a highly desirable and highly famous brand. They’ve made a decision over the years to go more and more upscale.

In the 1980s I met an extraordinarily wealthy man who told me Rolex was pedestrian, and the truly rich wore VC and PP. Look, that may be. I have no doubt that there are “finer’ cars than my Mercedes. But, the Mercedes is an upscale product that is actually really good and safe for everyday driving around LA.

Rolex also makes an excellent product. I’ve worn one daily for over 20 years. I also bought a used circa 2003 5-digit DJ and a used circa 2007 6-digit AK. They are both great pieces (didn’t want PCL on the DJ), and the AK, for being the least expensive Rolex, is a beautiful and robust piece. These are workhorse watches that have functioned for decades.

My MIL (who's living with us short term) is a nutso wackadoodle that gets all of her facts from YouTube rants. The farther out the better. She is on the conspiracy boat about the moon landings, flat earth, illuminati, and whatever else she can dredge up out there. Oh, and she bought into the Iraqi dinars scam.

These takes are really boring at this point. They were boring 3 years ago, tbh. The fact they are still being made is borderline embarrassing.

If I can't get it, I'll dis it

The man criticises Rolex watches: mass-produced, boring design, no interesting complications, fake history, ubiquitous.

However, he also complains about not being able to walk into an AD and get one.

Why would anyone try to buy a "boring" watch from a brand they hate? Makes no sense. Seems like he's letting his poor AD sales experience tarnish his opinion on the actual product. Throwing a tantrum and pooh pooh on Rolex cause he can't get one?

Not worth watching.

But we also have people frequenting this very forum site that take the same position, so who knows what their problem is. But whatever it is, I'm happy that I don't suffer from it.

The problem here is nothing really to do with the brands.

No Rolex is not a marketing genuis. Nor is AP or Patek or anyone else.

They just gained immensely from social media hype, Covid free money and crypto booming. I would say at peak the vast majority of Rolex buyers didnt even like the damn things.

They either used it

1) To flex on social media and friend circles
2) Flip and try to make a quick buck
3) Launder money and currency easily so they dont have to pay tax through their crypto and ill gotten gains. It was used to move large sums of money simply by wearing somthing small on your wrist you could move $1M+ without anyone noticing.

All 3 are gone now and the market is dead and the values have plummeted. Thats all there is to it.

.

I'd say Rolex marketing is right up there with the best. I would imagine 95% of the population has no idea what AP or Patek brands are, and 80% or better heard of or know what a Rolex is.

Wimbledon, the US Open, the Australian Open, and the French Open. they've also been involved in sailing, motorsport, golf, equestrianism, etc. JC, Tiger, Paul Newman, etc.

YouTube should be paying us to watch these 'infomercials' and / or 'self promotion' videos.

YouTubers can set the rate on how much they are paying viewers, just as Google Ads works. No pay, no free views.

I think you´re right , what this guy is talking maybe is true regarding the "ceramic" era but not at all in the pre-ceramic 5 digit serial number era .
In those days you didn´t have to wait to buy a GMT-MASTER or a SUB , and prices , altough not cheap , was not what are today .
Also pre-ceramic era watches didn´t look all alike , a SUB or GMT MASTER were very different than a DAYTONA .
So I agree with "his arguments are a mix of highly subjective and straw-man logic "

Most all YouTube today nothing more than clickbait, and if some believe everything they see or read there then they must have lost the use of there brain to think for themselves.

He spotlights Covid as the turning point for demand which is flat-out incorrect! I was waitlisted for my Rootbeer in early 2019. Covid did not help the situation, but when somebody gives incorrect justification to make their point, that just loses all credibility with me. He also does not mention the fact that it is ne of the very few brands that hold their value! Just another YouTube talking head!
