Phillip, am glad he will / is recovering. So very disheartening when these things hit very close to home. The frequency of these events is very alarming.

Wishing you and yours (and all TRF members) safe travels.

Most of my employees are women and I spend a lot of time talking to them about issues that I was completely blind to. I’ve come to see their perspective, and I, like you, spend a lot of thought trying to avoid making women feel vulnerable in the street. HOWEVER, one perspective that I share with women, that I think goes without consideration, is that more men are assaulted by other men relative to women by a huge margin.
These are such good points and something my daughters have opened my eyes to, and as a man, was not really conscious of before. I notice it most when walking in parking lots in particular, say from the car to a store or back. I have to tell myself to not walk directly behind women or too close as they could perceive me as a threat.

It's definitely sad this is needed, but yes my sister said the same, just too many fking creeps around man.

Last thing I want is to have some girl feel unsafe, I keep my distance as well.

Very sorry to hear this. What a shame. I visited Amsterdam about 25 years ago and it was an amazing and beautiful city. That's too bad that apparently it has deteriorated.

I’ve gotten a little too comfortable. Gonna make sure to cover my nice watches with long sleeves, and if wearing short sleeves then to not be alone and extra mindful.

Almost got robbed today in a well to do and quiet residential neighborhood of NYC during the middle of the day. Thankfully the would be thieves weren’t the exceptionally brutal or even experienced types and I was able to take off when I got a sense of what was happening.

So sorry to hear this.

Yes, as a woman living in Los Angeles, I agree that situational awareness is vital. Not every man is, of course, a criminal, but in a county with well over 10 million people, there are plenty of people around who look for vulnerable prey.

Every free society is of the citizenry’s choosing.

The repercussions of said choices are usually delayed.

Fear not, there are places in the world that are very safe. Feel free to wear your finest of timepieces in Singapore, Japan, China, Saudi Arabia, and Dubai.

What other countries can TRF suggest that are safe?

We came back from Amsterdam a few weeks ago here to Australia, certainly no bad experiences for us, I do fit the category of wearing a Garmin when travelling so we can count our steps. I do not travel with Rolex etc to any country, and much of this is just to the reality you never know when you will put yourself in a bad spot or be out at times and situations you would not be at home. I still think for the most part these things are unfortunate and not the norm, we still need faith in those we take life's journey with, if you become riddled with fear it can take more from you than any thief can

Awful, hope he recovers both physically as well as psychological.

There was a couple of high profile cases in Amsterdam last year. Former F1 driver Robert Doornbos and then a fatal stabbing of a party organizer.

With that said, looking at crime statistics it's not that bad. I wouldn't myself hesitate to bring a nice watch to Amsterdam like many times before.

Adding to your list Oman, Qatar and Bahrain of which Qatar is my favorite.
Amazing friendly people.
I am always happy when in the Middle East.
Zero worries and 24/7 go where you like. Love it.

Agree with this list. Add Abu Dhabi (or most other UAE cities). I loved Oman. I lived in Muscat (Al Ghubra) for several years. The Omani's are the friendliest people on Earth.

I know people think it's an unpopular opinion but I feel that the United States is an extremely safe place to wear your rolex. Outside a very few select areas in certain cities, I'd wear a luxury watch with confidence.

Not in parts of CA like San Fran, Oakland and L.A. These cities are extreme high theft areas for rolex assaults in broad daylight. Oakland and SF both have become a dump for street thugs as DA is backlogged on cases so they are no longer even doing any trials and thugs know this so running rampant.

I'm a field engineer and cover most of CA and I wear my Panerai for the most part. My work vehicle has already been targetted twice ..once in San Francisco downtown and another time in Orange County, LA. And nothing was inside except it's a healthcare service car.

Maybe a good reason nowadays to get your Rolex insured...either with home insurance or jewelry company.

I am sorry to hear.

If you don’t mind asking, What Rolex was he wearing ? So we can have some context to this robbery. If it was a S/s air king vs a diamond bracelet DD, it makes all the difference.
