Congrats Dustin, life is too short. I would be tempted to pop in to your AD with your new piece on just to let them know where they could stick their chance of any future jewellery business! |

Having this kind of spend history with your AD and still being told 5-10 years….
It would sting more for me to give them another dollar. Good for you for getting the watches you want without waiting and playing these ridiculous games. Enjoy them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Hope Helene departed your domicile without destructive intentions.
Now, about that aversion which your AD has now cured you of... Glad to hear the success story. I bought 2 new Rolexes & 1 Tudor over my lifetime. But have bought/traded/sold more than 2 dozen others with dealers in the secondary market. Both pathways are worth walking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

"Super content" is the best measure, congrats. As others have said, life is short. Enjoy it.

i admit I got my Daytona gray. Of course that was when it saved me 5 digits vs. costing a premium. I don't feel a stigma associated with it, lol.
I will also admit that while I pretty much sit out the buying and selling of watches on TRF, I kinda like hearing of stories like the OP's. There is so much AD fatigue from the last number of years of many of them exploiting their position, that I feel a certain "sticking it to the man" joy when people decide to pay a small premium and go gray, or buy a non-hot model gray and save money rather than support their AD. So............

Good for you. 5-10 years (never) is BS for that spend history.

I just can’t imagine any watch being worth either of those options.

I did grey once. Not my thing, a bit of a stressful experience when you spend 10k on a watch. At least I got 34% off retail for a new piece stickered full set.

Congratulations. I feel like nowadays for most of us playing the AD game is useless. If you wanna get something, get it. Getting on the list won't hurt, but it's unlikely to yield in something.

I do not consider the OP a hypocrite, I consider him an informed consumer who took a set of facts set out by an AD and made the best decision for himself and his wife. Great selection of watches and buying experience as discussed. The OP still researched and found the best deal possible and paid a market price for very desirable watches. As mentioned above, the AD fatigue is real and many who would not have consider going Grey have now made that move. Congratulations.
