My first Rolex was a SeaDweller because it was the one universally recognized watch I could use when I was in a chamber - which I was a couple times a week.

The Deepsea was a natural progression for me ….
(the bigger dial is golden in less-than-perfect enviroments)

I will be the first one to admit that there is no prettier Rolex in a showroom case that the two-tone Deepsea (well, maybe the bluesy) - but put it on your wrist with that color gradient and all the fonts and it becomes unreadable - particularly under water.

In my mind, the Rolex black dial on the stainless is the classic tool watch.

Oh, and the reference to ‘SeaDweller’ on it’s dial is just a cool nod to it’s ancestry.

If you’ve bonded with the Sub then I reckon there’s a fair chance you won’t be reaching much for the DeepSea. The two wear very differently.

If possible try and get it sized and wear it around the AD for a short while - If they won’t take out links then close the clasp over some tissue paper or something, just make sure you get a feel for the balance of it worn on your wrist.

I think the DSSD, especially in black, is one of the easier watches to grab at an AD. I routinely see used blacks models in the 10k range . The sheer size limits those of use who can wear it. I would never buy a DSSD at retail

How the market has changed in the last 30 months or so! When I got mine at retail in March of ‘22 they were selling for over $20k on the secondary market…crazy how fast things change. Didn’t buy mine to flip and don’t regret my purchase at retail in the least, but it’s interesting to see how things have moved around.

I have the latest black dial without the Sea-Dweller script and the slightly larger date window. I really think it’s an amazing watch. The tech is over the top, the dial and hands are so legible, and as far as I know, it’s the only modern Rolex with a domed crystal. All features I love.

Thanks, all. One last question…as mentioned, I have a Bluesy (2017 with the gold text). Do you think it’s too similar in terms of another blue dial or would it be a nice compliment to the rotation?

As mentioned before, the bluesy and the JC would be redundant. The bluesy and the black dial would be complimentary.

For me, I agree. As we've seen here on a regular basis, some ADs want you to prove yourself worthy of the brand by purchasing additional merchandise as a prerequisite for future consideration. It was not for me. I just love the watch and bought it below retail + sales tax. I think they will trade below MSRP (at least the black dials as time marches on, JCs seem to do better), but not drop out the bottom to answer an earlier post, nor would I expect these watches to increase in value dramatically. One never knows, I suppose.

Well, I figured I'd give an update...I got it. Love the size and weight of it. I find I can wear it in a suit or jeans and a t-shirt. Thanks to everyone for all the great input and feedback!

I got one recently and I like it a lot. I probably would not have gotten it if they offered the black dial model, but the JC blue fade to black is very cool. I had one of the old first issues and got rid of it after a short time because of the narrow bracelet. I have had this new JC model for several months now and it has grown on me more than I thought it would. I was on the list for the Yachtmaster 42mm Ti with the JC Deepsea as a second choice and got the call for the Deepsea. When I went in to check it out they also had the YM42TI and I was able to compare them side by side. I was not as impressed with YM42Ti as the JC Deepsea, so I was happy to take my second choice. I have an 8.25" wrist and I would say that if you have a rather small wrist it may not be a good one for you. It is not the biggest or heaviest watch that I own but it is substantial. The features that I like the best on it are the domed crystal, larger crown, the adjustable clasp, the Ti caseback and of course the dial.

Love it ! I own the JC 126660. The proportions are excellent. The 136 with the lowered bezel, exposed crystal and lack of extension clasp is confusing.
I enjoy diving with the DSSD and it has the scares to show.

It is not the Deepsea Seadweller any more; now just simply the Deepsea. And I like the lack of the extra text on the dial. It still has plenty of text on the dial and now it is differentiated from the Seadweller which is a totally different watch anyway.

Love mine. The dial is amazing with the gradient, and I prefer the added script and ratchet adjustment on the strap of the 2nd gen. They cut costs on the 3rd gen sadly but still a killer piece

Nice collection, I almost bought a PloProf a couple years back, I still might at some point!
