Not so much PM/price point as it is collection/perspective, IMO. My DD40 is my daily, because I view it my archetypal watch; and it just so happens my lifestyle reasonably accommodates it and isn’t hard on watches. For others it may be too ostentatious, too bothersome to see it marked up from the daily grind, etc. To each their own. Do what makes sense for you. Same shite on car forums. If someone wants to drive their Zonda five miles over 10 years, because that is what makes them happy, that is their prerogative. And when you buy your own Zonda, you’re free to do whatever pleases you.

I don’t know about Thailand? But wear it and enjoy it, that is what it’s for.

Cheers,

Your attitude can change in the future as you get older. Don’t do anything like selling a watch you don’t wear. I have done this only to find in a year or lifestyle change the watch I sold would have been perfect. We grow as a person and so does our style and taste. Watches are cheap to own and cost nothing to store so it’s not like a boat or vacation property you are not currently using that cost lots of $$$ just to have sitting.

Enjoy your watch now. I probably wouldn’t take it to Thailand, as I have other watches for travel. It’s all about one’s personal assessment of risk. YMMV

There is nothing wrong with having a watch that you look forward to wearing on special occasions. I have two stainless watches that I wear daily, and a PM that I wear on Friday date night with the wife. No different then having an exotic car, why wear it out daily driving, makes it more special when you do use it.

Thailand is/was ranked 1 place safer in the World compared to the US, according to the below.

Enjoy your watch OP and from personal experience I’d have zero concerns about wearing it in most places in Thailand.

So far, I have 2 PM watches. I also have an assortment of SS pieces, including Subs, BLRO and Daytona. These 2 get the most wrist time. The caveat is I don’t wear any of them when I’m working in the yard, tinkering on my cars or motorcycles, etc. I’ve got a true beater Timex and a Seiko for that. Even though a Rolex is pretty robust, I personally don’t see the point of thrashing an expensive watch and don’t like the look of a thrashed watch either.

Oh, I agree....obviously have to be selective ( no yard work on the PM)..:)

You do you, buddy. “Most places” is correct. As I said, it’s all about personal risk assessment.

I have some experience regarding this subject. Last December for my retirement and 60th BDay I splurged and bought the very same 41mm beauty from my local AD. Having owned a 36mm datejust for quite a few years this is an upgrade to be sure. I wear it everyday. I even wear it to bed just like my datejust. Doesn’t bother me. I never shower in my watches due to soap scum and residue.
Now with regard to Thailand. I spent 30 days traveling around Thailand and I would not recommend taking such a piece. This piece is noticeable and criminals are everywhere. Why have to worry about your watch is my thought. Take a different watch to Thailand is my vote but you do you. Good luck.

I have several watches but there is at least one in PM that I just don't feel comfortable wearing all the time. Though I don't always wear it, I like to save it for special occasions. Not only to keep it "nice" but also because I like it so much that taking it out only occasionally make me appreciate it even more. It makes that special occasion even more special.

I wear my WG sub as a daily beater. Any modern watch or non-super complicated HH watch is fine as daily beater. Before the sub I daily wore my PM APs and Patek but like the sub as it’s a little more rugged and has better WR.

Why buy it if you're not going to wear it? Buy an expensive painting instead and hang it on the wall.

No one is guaranteed tomorrow. If you have what it takes to pull of full PM, do so immediately.

I personally wear my SS watches daily, and save my PM for special occasions…but it’s an heirloom vintage ladies’ gold President that belonged to my MIL, and is only 26mm (very hard to read). It’s YG, which isn’t my preferred watch metal tone, either. I’d wear it more if it were WG. But, we bought it from her because she was thinking of selling it. It’s not the watch I’d buy for myself.

You bought this watch for yourself….you should totally wear it as often as you can!

It’s not a rare, classic watch. We drive our cars, many of which cost more than that watch.

Indeed, yes so true....many times, and this is my fault... I buy something nice and I think "I don't deserve this".... but slowly beginning to get out of that mentality

Between the sub and Daytona which do you prefer?

Sounds like good old Catholic guilt, which I can relate to.

Having recently had multiple mini strokes at the age of 44, I absolutely say wear the hell out of it immediately. Nothing in life is guaranteed including tomorrow. You deserve everything you were given. Now go make memories with it and do not feel bad for having the best looking Rolex in the catalog. Wear it with that same swagger.

These are watches, designed to tell a human the time as and when required.

People that buy Rolex and put them away in the safe, would be better off buying gold coins and leaving the watches to the people that really want and appreciate them.

I could never stick a watch in a safe. I buy what I like and I want to wear and make memories with it!

I also took my Star Wars toys out of the package!
