I made a decision that when I was searching for a pre-owned Sub, I would rather get a deal without papers than pay a potential premium for having the papers. I'm happy I have my Sub for what I paid, with box, no papers. Even the box I can do without.

For me approx 10 or 20% have papers. But I prefer vintage pieces from 70's or earlier so it's not always an option and the prices are often crazy. Why pay $1000's for junk that'll just sit in a box somewhere gathering dust? I'd rather save the money and buy another watch!!

I don't see box or papers as much of an insurance against faking either.

Even if I don't intend to resell a watch at the get go, it seems to me it would be MUCH easier down the road to sell the watch with papers.

Hope this topic has not been beaten to death

I am simply making you aware that I strongly object to degradations such as calling something as exquisitely-crafted as Rolex timepieces a Rol***.

I still haven't been able to figure out why people do it so I took a stab at it.

Perhaps you can enlighten me, Bill.

I don't believe I said you were. Nobody said that the "lots of folks" weren't annoying either.

So you have no explanation other than other people say it?

Does the term make one sound more casual?

I really am curious.

All of my watches have boxes and paper except the vintage 6694, it is because it is not I "bought" it, it is someone compensate me as a repayment of debt. He knew I love rolex so give me a watch as a repayment. I like the watch so I accept it although it does not with a paper.

newer = try to get papers
vintage = may not be an options

both of my early 2000 models have boxes and papers. i know for a fact the boxes are repped ALOT. the papers not so much. one of mine was purchased via internet from a brick and mortar and the other one was of (dare i say) E-bay but from the original owner with boxes and papers. of course that was my no date sub and i have not seen that faked or "repped." well at least not yet.
