Thanks for all of the input. I guess the reason I'm having such a problem deciding is because I have all of my finances in order (enough in savings and maxing out IRA), so the 10K really is icing on the cake. Two years ago I wouldn't have hesitated to put some in savings to add to my savings and the rest into the market. But the way things are now, I tend to think that adding to savings when the rate doesn't even beat inflation isn't a great plan, and the market would mean keeping the money in there for at least 5 years (I'm a Boglehead... buy and hold mutual funds).
Meanwhile, the watch just looks so nice :-P But I guess the more prudent thing to do is to keep building up my investments since I'm still young and to hopefully reap the rewards in the future. Grr... why is it so hard to resist temptation?? haha |

Ignore the Daytona haters. The Daytona is one of the few that actually retains close to its MSRP right after the purchase, and is far more collectible longterm. Of any Rolex, it is certainly worth its price.
As you said, savings isn't going to beat inflation. The stock market seems toppy right now so the upside doesn't seem like it could be much, without a substantial risk of downside. Gold is high and who knows going where. Your ducks are in order, financially speaking. Buy a Rolex and enjoy life.

Based on what has happened in the last 18 months, I would save it for a rainy day or possibly invest in blue chip shares

Sell FNSR short they are a tech company that just completed a reverse split. When this happens I've observed the price falls noticeably see fellow techs CNXT and JDSU. I own none of these stocks and do not have short positions in any of them.

buy Apple or Google stocks. Make $$ off of that and get a white daytona.

I'd buy my wife a new Rolex because she deserves it. She's been working her butt off lately, and still found the time to buy me a Sub Date for our first anniversary. I'd love to return the favor.
The rest would go to home repairs/savings. |
