Had a guy sitting next to me at the bar at PF Chang's the other night wearing the same watch. Absolutely stunning. Maybe someday. I like the TT because I can wear it with my college class ring and my wedding band. Both are yellow gold. They look great with the TT Rolex. |

If that gorgeous Sub is what pimps are wearing, I'm changing professions. My hair is already frizzy, anyone have some bell bottoms I can borrow. I'll be stylin' and profilin'.

I turned down a Comex Sub at £450 to buy a TT sub for £800 around 25 years ago. If I had my time again it would be different.....but at the time everyone and I mean everyone wanted aTT watch. I think all TT 's esp blue Subs and root beer GMT's are bumping along the bottom price wise. A friend of mine just bought an 80's TT DJ and I couldn't take my eyes off it. All my watches are SS or WG and I'm starting to think about getting a TT Sub and GMT

I hope you don't just lurk because your input is still welcomed around here. It takes many members from all over the world with different views to make this forum work. All I was saying is that , we can get the same point and opinion across without offending our fellow members. I know that a few lines don't speak for your character as a man, but what did speak volumes was your apology for whatever comment that might have offended some members. And I would like to extend an apologize to you for whoever mentioned that you should be " hung by the neck until dead" That type of language should not be tolerated or thrown around lightly. I myself on a different forum have said something that was taken the wrong way and made some people upset. I quickly realized that it was a cultural difference that made what I said wrong. I apologized and learned from that comment and went on to become very good friends with the other member. So I would just like to extend to you an olive branch to move on from this point and use this as a teaching moment for all who post ( self include) to be mindful of the opinions that we post to not offend anyone and still get our views and point across. The truth is that we all have at least one model in the Rolex line-up that we would never purchase, but I would not talk bad about it because that same model might be someone else's "Grail Watch".

To Mick P,
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you think Sub is pimpy, then it is pimpy for you. It is wrong for people to make you believe in their point of view. What you said was your honest opinion. People are afraid of honesty and take it personally. Honest statements come out brutally clearly and with in-your-face type of manner. Never be afraid to give your opinion when asked for and give it honestly and sincerely and truthfully. There will always be someone who will get offended no matter what. So who cares. Give your opinion and stick to it. There is nothing worse and more repulsive than a man apologizing for his beliefs because someone is offended or because people gang up on him. I think you did a great job expressing your opinion. To you it is pimpy, to me it is classy and to someone else, it is a waste of money ...It only is what someone wants it to be. take care |

Thanks for the posting but I will most certainly keep a low profile until the dust settles. To be fair, no one actually suggested stringing me up by the neck, I only used the expression as I got the distinct impression that a few members thought it would actually be a jolly good idea. I realise that if someone owns and loves their TT watch, it must be a bit galling if some upstart from nowhere comes in like an unwanted relative from hell and suggests that their beloved watch is only fit for a pimp to wear. So believe me, there are no hard feelings from me and I have just put this little episode down to one of lifes experiences. Once again, thank you for your posting. Regards Mick |

BTW, the views here on TRF are hardly representative of the world at large.
There is a certain snobbery here that leans towards tool watches, either in SS or a precious metal. The rest of the world still loves TTs, and the DJ is still at the top of the heap...

I am a great fan of the TT blue sub. To be fair to Mick, it probably has got a image problem in some quarters but to me it is iconic Rolex and the one I am drawn to buy just as thousands of others have been.
I know what some friends and family will say but I am not sure I care. |

Yup, me too. That is one reason why it is aging so good for me. It is flexible enough to work with about anything. You can dress it up or down,....it just works.

Not wanted in secondary market? Why? For me, people can afford to buy TT....prefer buying it NEW from AD.

If not, they should have stopped production. Common sense.

I dont understand how TT can be "pimp".
If something is pimp, then its solid gold. Im a fan of TT, I like gold but a solid gold is just... Too much. Sure, it is pretty f'ing awesome and I would definetly wear it no doubt. But I like TT because its a nice mix, makes the gold more subtile. I am enjoying the fact that TT costs as much, sometimes less, than SS. Its ironic and at the same time I get what I want and like, for a lower price! And solid gold on a little 22 year old punk... No way. Even TT probably looks wrong |

I have a 1999 16613 I love the two tone sub. Gold and that blue dial is just beautiful. Really shimmers. The band was at at 80% when I got it. I switch it out now and then for a navy NATO strap which I love on it.

Chaps
I thought you would like to know a rather ironic occurencee bearing in mind my comment relating to bad taste and pimps etc. It is my wifes birthday next month and I told her she could choose any Rolex watch she wanted and she has chosen a TT Ladies Datejust. So does this make me a pimp ? Regards Mick |

for me it has to be SS or solid gold - have never liked any of the TT's. Too much of a "half way house" in my own opinion.

TT - Why are they unwanted on the secondary market?
As a younger professional (28) most of my colleagues and contemporaries prefer two tone watches over SS.
Obviously it varies from group to group and generation to generations. Anecdotally, people my age prefer a semblance of gold compared to our fathers/older relatives that tend to prefer stainless steel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I like TT watches they are sorry and dressy at the same time. Also if you wear white and yellow gold jewelry the TT Rolex blends in.
Also it's good that they are cheaper on the used market that means more for me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Never had a problem with TT...I think some models look better TT then all gold or just stainless steel.

My quiver of watches wouldn't be complete without my beat up TT. It fits me to a T. All gold not my style but I sure like them when I see them on others.

That's why we shouldn't rush to label anyone who likes a certain watch. I just feel that the world is already full of nasty comments everyday, so to hope that we could discuss the love of watches on this forum like adults without offending members to get our opinions out should not be to far fetched.
