Thanks. It’s a super clean, MAC-V SOG from June 1968. Still has the rare, original bracelet. Beautiful dial and lume. The case maintains all of its plating. Back from a complete overhaul and in perfect working order with new main spring operating at +3 seconds after quality control. As a lover of both Seikos and military watches, I am really happy to add this to my collection. I stumbled upon it by mistake and sat there in disbelief for a few seconds over what I was looking at and the price it was offered for. I IMMEDIATELY purchased it. It was found it at a thrift shop in California.

The MAC-V SOG unit (Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group) started in 1964 and comprised members from the various Special Forces units and CIA into one classified, clandestine, group that engaged in asymmetrical warfare, recon, rescues, assassinations, and psychological operations deep behind enemy lines and in countries where their presence was not allowed like Laos and Cambodia. They trained and forged deep bonds with highly skilled, reliable indigenous peoples of the Vietnam Mountains.

My MAC-V SOG reference is one of three that is widely accepted as a true model and one that was actually procured directly from Seiko by the US military, specifically the CISO (Counter Insurgency Support Office) and issued directly to MAC-V SOG operators. The bracelet was often swapped in the jungle for a NATO style strap. The CISO supplied “sterile,” untraceable gear, clothing, weapons and equipment completely differentiating the MAC-V SOG operator from the typical infantryman’s issued gear. It allows for “plausible deniability” if captured since nothing on them links them to the US government.
