OK, so I've been looking through old pics, I found some of a matte-dial 1675 I used to own a few years ago. It's a 1,82XXXX from '68. It was on a really tight '74 C&I, and had B&P. Nice-looking watch, with a great case. Thought I'd share

Thanks guys, and please let's all keep indulging, and feasting our eyes!

Ahhh… the mesmeric allure of a flawless mirror-finish, gilt-gloss lacquered dial after 48 years.

Found a Vietnam War Submariner Survivor

Hello all...new to the thread.
I recently found a surprise amongst my father's Vietnam War ribbons and medals...it was his daily wearer from the time of purchase in 1955 up through his time in the jungles of Vietnam in 1968 that ultimately gave way to his Omega cal. 321 Seamaster he purchased on his way back to the states. It is an all original Rolex Submariner 6205 that appears to be extremely rare. I have sent it off to Bob Ridley (thanks to the many strong recommendations for Mr. Ridley on this thread) for a mechanical tuneup and restoration which will maintain the original dial, pencil hands and lolipop seconds hand and bezel insert without hour hashmarks. Based on everything I have been able to read on this "James Bond small crown first Submariner" I think I have a "Grail watch".
I will post some pics when I figure out how :) I will get it back from Mr. Ridley in mid May and can't wait to have it on my wrist.

Nice Nato. Matches the blue of the insert perfect. Your first picture makes me miss my gilt. They look amazing in that angle. The gold font just pops.

Hi Frank - great intro and story. Wonderful heirloom, too - wow. Thanks for sharing, and looking forward to seeing it when the restoration is done. You are one lucky fella!

Thanks Buddy - It's my prettiest watch, for sure.

I also love the colour of these straps. This is the third one I've had, and although I wasn't overly impressed with the quality of the first two, this one came from a different source, and I think it's slightly superior (I reckon the first two were 'seconds').
