The watch is pretty. But to me, the dial looks a bit too busy to my liking. The minute hand is curved down a bit like GS. The recent GS Spring Drive range is better I think. PP is absolutely the sought after watch as the whole but the GS is good value for money. One more thing, only 24 jewels in the watch of 50k pounds. I am not sure how reliable the movement is but paying that sort of money I expect a bit more than 24 jewels. Is it as tough as the GS chronograph?

Wow, this is the funniest thread I've read in ages.
Rolex owners slating a watch collector for spending too much on a watch. 'If I had that sort of money' etc etc. Take a deep breath and perhaps visit some of the other watch forums where you'll read posters saying that to spend that much on a Rolex you must be either A.) Mentally impaired or B.) Unbelievably wealthy or C.) Both. You can't justify Rolex prices by talking about quality, neither can you justify Patek prices by the same measure. Is the Patek as robust as a Seiko chrono? Probably. Why wouldn't it be? Anyway, the Patek chrono is probably the nicest watch I've ever seen. It is a piece of beautiful artful design. It is in this capacity it needs to be considered - as art not purely timepiece. Congratulations on your purchase it is truly stunning.

May I respectfully suggest that you do some further research on the Patek Philippe brand? If you do you will see that the 5070 was fitted with one on the most robust and beautiful movements in a chronograph ever created. It was not an in house movement but was made by the famous "Lemania" brand. The number of jewels fitted to a movement does not mean that it is a better or more complicated one. In this day and age when manufacture's are working with silicon to help extend the wear and tear on a movement, you will find very few jewels. In fact now a days a jewel may only be there to make the movemment more photogenic!! The movement that is fitted to a Spring Drive is quite nice, but it can in NO way compare to the finish of movements that crafted to the degree that a Patek is. This is just my humble opinion.

for me, without a date, i dont like the pp
and i like the lange datograph better as a chrono the pp is nice, but i own a very nice patek, and to be honest, it is often more trouble than it is worth... this is why, after owning breguet, lange, and patek, i am back to rolex... |

Well, in hindsight, I wish I would have bought one for my collection before they were discontinued. Truely a beautiful watch.

Here's mine.. just got it two days ago!
Pictures dont do it justice really...
I've been thinking for a long time what would be the ideal reference to get as my first Patek watch... I'm a great fan of Vintage Rolex's and AP's but really wanted to a get a nice Patek... and with so many choices it was confusing... I wanted a watch that was not too classic looking and the new 5936 WG & 5205 (grey dial) seemed the favourite contenders. I was also considering the 5712 WG and the 5960P though a lot more expensive. But after much thought, I decided in the end to go with the 5070 WG! I thought if Im getting a Patek, I would like it to hold its value and I thought the 5070 would be a good choice. I also like the large case size of this watch and its design can go great with suits or semi casual attire. Since its been discontinued for some time i needed to find a pre-owned one but wanted a sealed new piece. So I flew down on the weekend to the Parma Fair in Italy and found one gorgeous new piece!! And am really happy with my ultimate choice... hope you like the pics! best |
