I don't really care for anything over 42 mm. I think Rolex is fine at the 40mm.

They are perfect for my wrist size, IMHO.

Love my 'Dakota' at 40. Thanks for the disrespect KirkWilfred!

4 out of 6 of my 'nice' watches are 40mm and on me (6'4", 200 lb.), they fit well.

I am tall but with thin wrists. My Explorer seems perfect for me at 36. I like the Sub size too, and that might be next, but when I try on anything 42+ it doesn't feel right.
Rolex seems perfect for me in the 36-40 range.

I've been hearing and reading snippets of the end of the "large watch era" for a few years now and I have not seen any manufacturers downsizing their cases. Even the vaunted Rolex "supersized" their case to perpetuate the trend.

Having said this, though, I don't find the sports collection too small.

I am right there with you. I don't think that the large watch style is a "trend". Trends don't last past a season or two, for the most part. Panerai has been making watches for a long time as has AP.

I like Rolex at the 40mm, but Panerai sits perfect on my wrist. I had a 244 and had to pass it to my wife as I felt that it did not seem right. Stands too tall and not wide enough. my 320 fits like a glove and with the simple style it does not call out attention which I like.

I would like to see Rolex put out a 42 or 44 mm watch. I think a 44mm Daytona would look awesome.

I was in your exact same situation. But then I found the New Sub C with Super Case and while it is smaller then Pams, it is has really grown on me and I now find the size perfect.

Check it out.

Thnx

I think 42-44 MM is a good size. What I am starting to turn away from is the super tall cases and the very heavy watches.

40mm watches are confident and comfortable with themselves, perfectly fine to be missed by the those who strive to be cool and trendy.

I'm not saying that big watches are a fad, as it is true that watches are trending to be larger. But within each generation there will be the large, small and in-between watches. For me the 40-41mm range is perfect in the current times.
Really depends on the size of one's wrist. I wear a 40 mm Panerai and numerous Rolexes.

Cheers

Kind of in the same boat...bought the DSSD because I like the size of that beast...I think 44MM is perfect for my wrist. Just found it uncomfortable.

Think I am going to buy a Daytona to try it out.

I on the other hand went from 44mm of a Pam to a 42mm of a Sinn 857s and finally to a 40mm of a Sub 14060M and loving every second of it.

i have no problems jumping inbetween sizes and i find a change quite refreshing.

I recently bought a 41 mm DD II and it doesn't feel small at all. My 40 MM GMT IIC feels big and heavy on my arm. My Daytonas seem perfectly balanced and anything but small.

I think Rolex sport watches and the 36mm watches are a perfect size. I'm not a huge fan of oversized watches.

40 mm is a good size for me for Rolex...also have a Breitling B1, Baume Mercier, and Omega seamaster that are all more than 40 but I don't believe more than 43mm which for me is the upper limit

I am glad that Rolex offer a 41mm Date Just. Anything below 40mm seems slightly feminine to me.

I have seen oversized watches, (more than 42mm), on a fair number of guys. It always seems to me that they are unsure of something about themselves and are posing with this piece of hardware instead of just wearing a watch. It's not a look I would want.

Nope! In fact I opted for the original DJ over the larger DJ II.

Its all relative. When I wear my DJ for a while then put on the sub, the sub feels huge by comparison. Likewise my Breitling is a veritable monster. I must admit I like the classic 36mm of the DJ even tho I have big wrists. Its somehow more refined

Despite my small wrist, I was drawn toward Seiko monster/kinetic, Panerai, Speedmaster etc. I was in senior management in male dominated companies, having a loud watch seemed to be the thing to do. Not to mention, I was also into expensive loud tie, shirt and suite etc. The psychology was simple: look at me, I command your attention. The Datejust my father passed on to me never saw wrist time.

As time go by, I developed new perspective on career and life in general. I now run my own consulting business. Even when meeting client the first time, I don't even want to impress them with anything external. Lasting impression always comes from inside. I dug out the DJ from the drawer. Wow, never knew it is so comfortable and elegant. Then I asked how could I carried a brick on my wrist for so long. 36-40mm is just right for me.

Don't get me wrong, I love fancy and expensive stuff for their beauty and intrinsic value. I hope to pick up a TT Daytona next year. But I would be upset if 'Daytona II' becomes 44mm!
I agree with you. As I learned, a watch should not distract from you as a person. I worked with the public and when I was with a client with an oversize watch, I paid more attention to the watch than the client. Rolexes have a sublime message "I am successful and do not have the need to prove it!!! Oversize watches scream "I WANT TO BE PROVEN SUCCESSFUL" or "LOOK AT ME". My watch is 34MM Date.

Men used to wear ties that were about half a foot wide. We got over it. We'll also get over the manhole-size watch craze, and the 36 to 40 mm Rolex watches will look just fine, once again.

36-40 is a great size for me. The trend is larger and it looks like the trend is here to stay. But for me 36-40 is in the zone. Guess I'm not very trendy.
