marketing and marketing gimmick are two different things. you need to market even a product with a decent background, history. no arguing there. marketing gimmick is needed when you have to sell something as an item with history and decent background though it has neither.

If ur saying that rolex got to were it is by quality alone, than jlc, zenith, glashutte original should sell 3 million a year. Rem er bond didn't wear zenith federor doesn't rep jlc. Ya alot of it is gimmicks which is fine just as long as it's kept to marketing not the watches themselves

What i was trying to say that Rolex got to were it was partly do to Marketing> Threw Movies and Celebrties, which is fine just as long as there is a product of a certain histroy quality and innovation is behind it. NOw if we look at Hublot there is no quality histroy or innovation behind there watches its jsut a Gimmick. What i meant what brands like AP and Rolex and others do which is use celebrties and others and sponsor event is.nt all bad just as long as there is quality behind that brand. Look at Hublot for example in 2006 and 2007 they were on the cover of every watch mag.the new hot thing when the market collapsed they sold out to lvmh because they new that there Gimmicks in Marketing and product(the Big Bang a APROO copy) could'nt last long on its own.And sorry for the confusion im not good at spell check:)

One of the beauties of the Big Bang is that the new in house UNICO movement can be installed into an existing watch that you own. I was close to buying an AP until Rory blew the Masters. Sadly now I have to pull for the Heat. Sponsorships can also backfire.
Wearing a Hublot can make a guy feel a touch younger. |

Sure. I agree that the watches are very different! At least for the color blind ;-)

No offense to the Hublot lovers, I do believe that buying a watch is a matter of personal preference. If the watch makes you smile that's it.
However I do think that Hublot watches scream Noveau Riche louder than many Rolex watches (yeap, besides the WIS community that's why Rolex watches are bought for - Status). Hublot watches do not make me smile. IMHO they're just an overpriced, pretentious, big watch case with a cheap movement inside. No heritage ;)

Pretentious? really? I highly doubt you would have purchased your watch unless it said Rolex on it.....It's the only high end watch that is noticeable to people who don't own them.....which is why I think most yuppies buy them....for everyone else to see. Hublot is for a collector who knows what he wants in a watch. And to the people who say that Hublot doesn't have history....that couldn't be further from the truth. Look at the guy running the company. History at AP, blancpain, omega, etc. If he doesn't bring history to the brand, I don't know who could. Great companies have to start at some point. By the way I think the daytona is largely becoming a womans watch because of the size. I know a lot of guys don't want to hear that, but it's true. |

Rolex would never run an ad like the Hublot Eccelstone ad. I lost all respect for Hublot at that point. Also considering the price point, I find the resin plastic walls on the sides of the big bang case to be unacceptable. For the money, I'd rather get a ROO, although I'd much rather save a little more and get a Richard Mille.

Some watches from Hublot are indeed good-looking (as the watch that started this thread) however their price point is ridiculously off. Of course you can always find someone to buy your products if you position them well, specially if you produce only 25.000 watches/year (are these figures correct?). A month ago I was @ Hooters with my friends, having a beer when 5 famous brazilian soccer players arrived. Guess what? 4 of them were wearing Hublots with the classical RoseGold/Black look. That's my frame of reference for Hublot and I definitely don't want to be part of it. As for Heritage, don't get me wrong, but I guess that EVERYONE here agrees that it would take more than hire a CEO that worked in two or three serious watch houses to be able to claim some. My 2 cents

Sao Paulo, Brazil. :-) i don't remember their names because i'm not into soccer, my friends recognize them. I recognize the Hublot. I just remembered tha a very famous brazilian TV host wears Hublot constantly. His name is Fausto Silva. Just google it.

Some people like Hublot and some don't. I personally think they are overpriced for what you get. The movement is nothing special and personally I don't want to pay 25,000 for a watch that has plastic on the side of the case but that is just me.
