I've only worn it about 4 times now

I think Rolex Gold / PT / Diamonds are just as popular as their SS lines.

They say Rolex is the gateway to Watch Collecting :P

I'd go for rolex for weekends/occasions
and look for a used Tag for daily work wear, that way the Rolex gets babied and the abuse goes to the Tag

for now till your collection grows, and yes your collection will grow.. It's a problem TRF causes, Spreads fast and nasty

I'd also stay away from Custom Diamond addons
Factory diamonds are far beyond better sparkle than any custom jeweler can do
They are cheap for a reason, I've explained it on here before , it'll be easier to google the info

what he said....Tag and Rolex aren't even in the same league

that being said, I have an old Tag Heuer SEL automatic chronometer that I use as a beater watch. it's been through hell and back and keeps perfect time. I keep it because it has no resale value at all

You can should just a tad bit more and buy a rolex, a Cellini if you have to. It's all about the crown.

i own a sub c and a limited edition monaco - both classic watches imo. for me the difference is the fact that a monaco is the only tag heuer i would buy and there are a lot of rolexes i covet. also i was prepared to pay nearly list for my new sub c but would not have bought the monaco without a healthy discount. very happy with both watches.

Im wear a TAG Chrono as my daily beater. Bought it brand new at a big discount. It has served me very well, and I have done everything from mountain biking to construction with it.

Bought a used diamond bezel DJ earlier this year as a dress watch.

Simply no comparison.

If you want a relatively pricey beater watch, go with the TAG.

If you want a Rolex, buy the Rolex.

I'm not fan of Tag, not in the least. If you can't afford the used Rolex, then consider a used model from one of the many brands that are both far more desirable than a Tag yet hold their value worse than a Rolex. You can pick up seriously nice pre-owned watches from IWC, Grand Seiko, JLC, or Blancpain for not a whole lot more than the Tag will cost you. However, judging by your desire to fit diamonds to a watch, my suggestions might not be to your taste.

The reason is because they are the ultimate aspirational item - many middle class people want one because they think it makes them look "rich". Just look at all the posts about the "power and prestige" of a Rolex - no one talks about the "power and prestige" of a Rembrandt.

Go for the Rolex. As many have said this is a Rolex Forum. I do not have anything against TAG what so ever, I enjoy wearing my classic TT S/EL any day of the week!

My father sold his Submariner in the tough times, bought a TAG S/EL, many years passed he bought a TT GMT, TAG sat in a box, Dad gave me the TAG.

The TAG means the world to me. Not because it's value, complication, design and the list goes on. It was on my father's wrist as he raised a family, a damn good one as I can proudly say. From playing with my brother and I, holding us at the hospital when we were born and even carrying his own father's casket. The TAG was there. There is an exceptional feeling when I slide it on my wrist.

The only TAG I would ever consider buying would be the Blue McQueen Monaco and the 24 just because I like how they are different. Other than that Rolex in fact I am saving funds to hopefully get my first official Rolex in the form of a white Explorer II 42mm or a SubC LV.

Ok I can see things from both sides of the fence. I own 3 Tags & 2 Rolexes. Tag makes a fine watch but lets be honest it's not in the same league as Rolex or Omega. Tag has a piss poor resale value while Rolex or Omega will hold their value. Now I'm not a watch snob since I bought my rolexes & I still wear my Tags in rotation, in fact my 2 Aquaracers are some of my favorite timepieces & I still wear them weekly. You have to remember that this is a rolex forum & most will be partial to rolex. I say buy what you like but take into consideration that if you want to sell any watch down the road you can always get quick cash for a rolex.

I think many people here have valid points & Rag's makes some good points as well. I have 2 Rolexes & several Tags, & I still wear & like my Tag's very much. I think ultimately it comes down to what do you really want? If you really want the Rolex, don't buy the Tag because you're still going to want the Rolex.

How is this...
The used DJ is worth 3K even after you buy it the Tag 1/4 of the 55% off price you just paid.
That is the math.

I love the blue diamond DJ
That is my thoughts
Good luck

My first real watch was a TAG. I can't say I agree with everyone advicing you to go for the Rolex. If you have the money, then yes, go for the Rolex. But the TAG offers pretty good value for the money and a lot of people are familiar with the brand (if you are looking for status/recognition). The notion that TAG makes bad watches is, I believe, not general knowledge but rather just an accepted "truth" on the WIS forums. Again, dependson what you are looking for. And yes, Rolex is the better watch ofcourse.

And I agree that the resale value of any Rolex is going to be higher, so unless you are keeping the watch indefinitely then Rolex is probably less expensive over time.

For the longest time my wife wanted a Tag Aquaracer with black dial and diamond hour markers.

We went to the jewelry store where they sold Rolex and Tag. She was about ready to pull the trigger on the $2500 tag and I saw an almost identical Rolex Lady Datejust in 26mm....black dial and diamond hour markers. it was like $8500.

Which do you think we walked out with? Yeah.......the rolex. Side by side there was NO comparison and the fact we spent 3.5x more than we originally anticipated quickly faded away. My arguement was that the Rolex is what I consider "heirloom" quality. Someday, we can give that to one of the nieces with some bit of pride...

Everyone buys for different reasons, if you just want a nice looking watch, but don't care about what it stands for get the Tag. If price is your ultimate and you can't find a nice used Rolex, maybe at least find a nice Omega. The fit/finish/quality of a Tag will quickly fade to nothing. I keep looking at the Blue Monaco...have for years. Just can't spend the money when I could buy a really nice used Rolex for the same money.

Probably the biggest reason is simply that Rolex has been able to continually raise prices and the demand is still there. As prices for BNIB keep going up those already in play go up with them. A rising tide lifts all boats, so to speak. That's why out the door you take a hit, but eventually over time after numerous price hikes, the used value turns around.

I can appreciate the history and quality of Rolex. I appreciate what they've done for watchmaking and I appreciate their in house movements and construction.

That said, there isnt a Rolex in existence that I'd even consider wearing other than maybe a Daytona and even that I'd think twice about considering what else is out there for the money. They just dont do it for me. I dont wear a watch for the name, I wear it because I like what it is.

There is nothing wrong with Tag watches if you like their style. They arent for everyone. I dont like a lot of their current styles, though I own a classic Carrera chrono and a LE Monaco Gulf edition. Both take back seats to my Omega in wrist time, but both are great watches and I wont be selling them any time soon.

I know I'm in the minority here, but buy what you like. Dont worry as much about the logo on the crown. While a Tag is not up to the quality of a Rolex a Rolex is still not 10 times what a Tag is, even if they cost 10 times as much.

No one needs a watch that costs more than $30. Therefore, when spending 4 figures or or more on a watch, it should first and foremost make you happy. If a Tag does that, its worth every penny. I never feel like I'm wearing less of a watch when I have my Tag on and likewise, I dont feel any more important when I have my Omega on.

Buy what you like and what makes you happy and wear it with pride.

Two pieces of advice:

1) Buy your used Rolex off of a seller on this forum, or a dealer you ABSOLUTELY trust. Otherwise you may be one of the many who show off their new (preowned) Rolex only to be told it is partly or completely fake.

2) Unless you are a gangsta, rapper, pimp, card sharp in Vegas, or a woman, think very carefully before buying a Rolex with diamonds. To many people they look a bit blingy. But if diamonds are what you really, really want, go for it. Just think about it before buying.

No offense intended towards gangsters, pimps, etc. Hey, the diamond Rolexes coordinate with the diamonds in your front teeth nicely.
