Considering the prices of these watches Its time for Rolex To stop with the bling and start watchmaking again and add some complications and or more movement improvements to their line up. Real Watchmaking. Hey JJ, Regards Good thread.

They should increase the depth rating of the subc to 4000ft. 1000ft now days is way too common So a 4000ft depth rating on the subc would look awesome.

A puny little and old 14060M vs the heftier subc and both with
the same depth rating, makes one wonder what the heft is all about.

A Rolex World Diver (A Sub with GMT Movement 24hr markers on the dial leaving the bezel time lapsed).

Perfect!!!!!

It will never happen though.

The YMII movement is, I believe, a clue to innovation in the future.

It is much more complex than progressive movements, like perpetual calendars, moonphases, or indicators such as powwr reserve. My imagination does not stretch to what can come next. I speculate it would be from the same stable as the YMII.

I think they should completely throw out the rulebook and do something amazing - they've already proved they can do it with the YM II. Let other brands deal with existing complications, I want Rolex to push forward the boundaries of watchmaking.

Besides new models, I think the next logical progression is to introduce an all-new successor to the cal. 3135, something at the cutting edge that can compete with the Omega cal. 8500

Leave the Daytona alone. Bezel and dial options ok.
Maybe a triple date or moon phase.

I like it... how about a Rolex World Chrono with no dial changes, just two added lockdown buttons.

White-faced two tone GMT II C with chrono start-stop/reset buttons. Existing hour, minute, second hands function normally. 24 hour hand gets double duty as sweep second for chrono, pressing reset when Chrono is stopped returns the double duty hand to 24 hour function. During Chrono, date wheel displays elapsed minutes, dual duty hand elapsed seconds. Maximum 31 minute chrono function, would handle 99.99% of all chrono duties.

Somewhere a watchmaker just called me names...

New colours of ceramic bezels?
Cheers JJ!

Anyway, back to topic. Here goes......

During the last few years, Rolex have spent a great deal of time, technology and development in improving virutally all of their models.

The Air-Kings and OPs were modified. The DJs and DDs were boosted up to 41 mm with better movements and bracelets - although the 36 mm models still continue to be very popular.

The Milguass was given a new lease of life and the GMT-II, as you all know, came up aces with the introduction of the new ceramic model.

The YM was complicated up to the YM-II which really didn't turn out to be everyone's cuppa tea, while the Sub-dates were all classed up with better bracelets, larger cases and maxi dials.

The SD was engineered even further into the technological marvel, the DSSD!
Rolex didn't have a clue as to what they should do with the Daytona, so they blinged it up to a new Rose Gold model and wrapped a stunning brown leather strap around it.

Finally, when the Rolex guys were clearly running out of ideas, they got hold of the skinny Exp-II by the scruff of its neck and came up with one of the most stunning models at Basel 2011!!

So the only model left unscathe and untouched is the older no-date Sub which still continues to rule with most watch lovers. Should Rolex do anything to that watch? I don't think so.

Which leaves all of us asking the 64,000 Dollar question!! What can Rolex come up at Basel 2012???

Yes, they do have plenty of "ice" and gold in their foundry and they could continue to bling up their DJ models, even the 34 mm not-so-popular ones.

Anything else? I've tried to put myself in Rolex's shoes. All of the above watches have been so superbly modified that I see no more room for improvement.

Rolex think-tanks have a lot to think about and get their grey cells into action.

I, for the life of me, cannot conjure up anything new from Rolex.

Cheers and love ya all - JJ

Wow, 70,000 posts and counting. You must be Master Yoda...

I think a DLC Sub C would fit a very nice niche market.

Thanks for all your replies and comments, guys.........appreciated.

Someone mentioned a revamp of the older TOG, but the fact is this model was in fact updated a few years ago with the newer case and a choice of Super Jubilee or the new Oyster bracelets.

Some of your comments made for real interesting reading, but doubt much of that will ever happen.

A better quality box would be a welcome change, but not sure if Rolex would be looking to spend that kind of extra money on something they feel is redundant.

However, they should include a real nice complimentary item with ALL their models - something like a beautiful gold plated key chain with a lacquered Rolex monogram.

We can all dream, can't we?

Cheers all - JJ

Rolex is like a Kiwi, working slow and then bang when you least expect it.

So just give the guys some time, this is not Omega or Breitling we talk about. We talk about to come up with a model
that will good for at least the next 50 years.

Great to see your brain still give you some headaches.

I'm really happy my friend when I can feel you feel better.

Nice post JJ I would love to see a return to some of the dress elegance that the 50's Oyster-dates had. 36mm models with dauphine hands and gold indices, roulette dial, automatic, gold or stainless steel and leather or bracelet option
