Bought my first Rolex yesterday.
After deciding not to buy the one I saw last week, I wandered around pretty much every watch shop in the West End of London yesterday looking for a Sub C. No one had one, although everyone had the GMTII in stock.
Earnest Jones on Oxford Street assured me that Mappin and Web on Regent Street had one, but it turned out to be a non-date model instead. Eventually I headed back to Bond Street and tried the tiny Watches of Switzerland Rolex specific store. I hadn't gone in there earlier because it was full of people and the shop is so small that it couldn't physically accommodate another body. I asked if they had a black Sub C and was told that they did have just one that had arrived earlier that day, but that it was being shown to other customers! I sat there for about 15 minutes while the other people decided whether or not to buy it, and luckily they didn't. So, after another brief look at the watch I decided it was worth the poverty it would cause me :) I had it sized for me straight away and the stickers will be coming off today - I'm planning to wear this watch not keep it locked away for resale later. I really like the new clasp, and particularly the fact that you can adjust it in increments - ideal if your wrists swell up on occasion, as mine sometimes do when I fly. Anyway, thanks for all the info and advice I've gleaned from this forum and here are some pics of my new baby! |
