Icon5 Rolex soon to be challenged by Omega?

Hi all

I popped into Selfridges today and the Omega section had gone! I asked the sales person and he said due to the new Omega boutique opening on Regents Street they were no longer permitted to trade Omega watches.

Rolex look to be already well on there way to becoming boutique only trade and Omega is looking to play catch up.

I guess with a boutique you get 2 main factors:

1. Controlled trade of products
2. Control on discounting (ie none )

Gone are the days where you could get 5-10% off a Rolex and 20-30% off an Omega from an AD

This is certainly becoming the case (ie controlled trade) here in the UK, interested in thoughts worldwide
