Glad I got my sub c when it first came out! I can probably flip it now for what I bought it for. I wont though :) |

It cracks me up the way people on this site complain about price hikes, but then react to the news by running out and buying a watch before the hike. So why shouldn't Rolex hike prices when it seems to always lead to a sales spike?

I found out more for sure the increase will be 4% across the entire Rolex line and it will max out at 5%. Was also told Rolex has been telling ADs to not discount precious metal pieces more then 10%. Both ADs said their Rolex reps emphasized this point.
Seems like they are trying to bring brand value up in a bad economy. |

This topic really needs a sticky permanent post of its own.
Plus if we did we could actually track rumor to when the price went up and by how much. |

Are they going to increase the price of the new explorer II? It doesn't seem right, since it's not even available at the current price yet.

Very likely possibility. Rolex has done this before. They announce the release of a watch at one price[ and then Rolex happens to have a price increase before the watch hits certain markets. If his happens, all you can hope for is hat the AD you buy it from gets invoiced for the watch prior to the price increase and in turn agree to sell you the watch at the pre-price increase price. Whee it gets tricky is you will really never know at what date the AD was invoiced for the watch. In times like that you hve to do a little homework and shop around and figure out where you can find the best price and pull the trigger with the source you are most comfortable with.
I too am waitng for my AD to receive his shipment. However if I do not receive my standard discount I receive on SS sport models I will pass and wait for the hype to settle and then purchase which I think I could buy with my discount before the next price increase after this one coming in Oct. Peer pressure has something to do with this as well. Omega now has a few stainless models in the $8k to $9k range. Panerai has gone up in price this past summer and so has AP. Rolex can't be left behind as a cheaper alternative to some of it's peers. I don't consider AP and Rolex as peers but all luxury watches has consistently gone up to match the demand and supply. How many TRF members we have now compared to three years ago? Lol

Well, time to get more appraisals to update the watch insurance. 116520 will be $15k in no time.

How's about limiting price increase threads to one a year.
While we are at it, the "what is an average AD discount" threads could be held to once a quarter ;-) Kidding of course! |

Just got word that an AD in NYC has already increase their prices. Has anyone heard official news from their AD?

This would be incorrect, they will raise the price even if the watch is not out yet.
They pulled this bulls#!t last year when I bought the Explorer I 39mm. It was announced at $5650 and by the time it actually hit the market a price increase had occurred and the price was $5750....not ever available at the announced retail Rolex knows full well what they are doing and it allows them to advertise their new watches at a price they never intend to sell at....only part of the reason I am done with them; my next watch will be a Vacheron Overseas. |

My AD sold all his SS sports yesterday/earlier today. Anticipation of the 5% hike really pushes sales....

Swiss watch sales are up 22%(per article in Barrons last week) and most of the high end companies have raised prices yet again. It is not just Rolex!! At the end of the day prices go up and those who want new watches pay more or don't get them. Either way they will sell their watches as demand is high bad economy or not.

It's not what competitors are doing fellas but the fact that the Swiss franc has appreciated so much. The fact that Switzerland has intervened in their currency recently should limit the number of increases Rolex needs to do over the next couple years.

Maybe so but it is what other high end watch companies are doing: Patek, AP, IWC, Lange etc. They all have been hiking up prices- as I said above Rolex is not alone in this. Also- watch sales being up 22% for Swiss companies shows strong demand regardless of economy.

Just because Omega (I like Rolex more), and some others raise their price...so what ?
Personally I could see spending 8k on a rolex way before doing so with an Omega, or Pan.....just my opinion |

I dont agree, but for the daytona it is in such demand he probably could get away with it. I think with any other watch he would lose a sale...
I have a M series sub...with the price increase will it be worth more? |

I think if you look at the reputable sellers on the TRF Sales section and you see prices go up, then you know for sure. I usually kep a tab on DSSD prices. Used ones are about $8500. I think on the next price rise, used ones will be around $9000 and MSRP will hit $11000 and then I will know for sure
