Dan, Dan, Dan,
You need to step back and take a breather imo. I think we can all relate to what you're going through, to some degree at least. For my two cents worth stay put with the Explorer 1 (36m) and consider picking up a 14060 down the road. I know you've been down that road 2 or 3 times before, maybe there's a reason you go back to a Sub. From what little I know of you being a one watch guy may not be possible. The above mix would give you the best of both worlds, the Exploer 1 for dress and flying below the radar. The Sub for sport and casual. Disclaimer- these are my two favourite Rolex. As much as I hate to quote "The Watch Snob" If one can only have one watch than Rolex Sub covers it all, from jeans and Tshirt to Tux, it works. I've been wearing a Sub n/d with a Speedy as my back up for 30+years. It's not easy but can be done. Give yourself some time before making anymore decisions and Good Luck with whatever decision you come to. Regards, Mark. |

if you are open to suggestions, take a look at the IWC Port Auto 5001. I am finding mine to be a great all purpose (although not sport) watch. It wears big for a 42mm but not stupid big. good luck. tomorrow is only a day away!

Hang strong brother!! There are truly plenty of nice ones out there to choose from. Stick to the basics--Classic Sub works or an SD. Maybe take a break for a while though and give it some thought...

Dan
I totally understand your plight, as I have been through the same thing...we love a model one minute and find a reason to flip the next...I am a lawyer and am so stable in my job....but the watch thing...forget it...I am a freak, rolex today...panerai tomorrow....rolex again...flipping regret....it is scary what I have gone through....got a 1675 right now...but panerai is calling again....ugh...I totally relate |

I have a large wrist as well - bones, not fat - and I found the Explorer 214270 was a bit of a tight fit - especially during the summer heat this year. but it fits okay.
On the other hand, I've had a couple of Omega's (Seamaster 300m with electric blue wave dial and my current Planet Ocean XL) in each case I had to get at least one link taken out. But I hear you about not being able to decide... I looked at the GMT-II so many times I think I was seeing it in my sleep. But at the end of the day, I just couldn't bring myself to pay the price. I got over it - or let's just say I found something else to lust after. Plus it seems like everyone has a Submariner or GMT-II - so I opted for the new Explorer I 'cause it was different. You can get obsessed by these works of art. |
