Deep Sea too big (for me) - end of story

But as much as I nag about the Deepsea, I do think it is a piece of superlative engineering and there sure is something mysteriously special about it. It is totally a love/hate thing, I painfully admit that I've owned this watch multiple times and there might be more! :-)

I don't think people here are DSSD-haters as much as there are certain people (I might be one of them...) who generally don't like over-sized watches, and the DSSD is pretty much the only one in the Rolex camp, so there is where the critique land!

Well there are Alto's and there are Tenors. Sounds like there are a lot of Alto singers out there with small wrists. Just saying.

It's a serious piece of equipment. For me the issue was the height. My wrists are only 6.25" and I looked like a little man in a big suit when I tried it on.

I get the big guy wearing a big watch thing. I just don't understand all the regular Joes into the big is better craze. Big Humvee, DSSD, triple patty burger...whatever.

Not bashing the watch, though, as different opinions make the world an interesting place.

What? Well my incoming watch is definitely bigger (AP ROO). The DSSD just does not appeal to me.

You've chipped in now several times to signal your exasperation that people might want to exchange different opinions on a Rolex watch on a Rolex watch forum. I don't get it? Either you find this stupid / boring and shouldn't bother reading or you could join in with an actual contribution. But just slagging off the discussions seems utterly pointless?

Seeing some pics of the DSSD properly sized on a smaller wrist is interesting and I probably underestimated the degree of importance of that. I am also coming from owning a mid-size Omega, so perhaps am not as open to the size as I could be. Won't rush to buy a watch, but increasingly, am looking at something a bit smaller. Lots to think about!! Thanks for the discussion and pics everyone.

I had a DSSD for over a year and sold it. The size of the watch was not a problem, but I was put off by the small watch face, as compared to the case size, and extra writing which I felt was unnecessary. I also felt that this was a watch that could never be repaired or serviced by anyone other than an RSC. Which I felt was a big inconvenience.

And I'll most likely "chip in" a few more times too. You said it yourself, it's a Rolex watch forum. I actually think you DO "get it" so deal with everyone's responses or pass over the posters you're sick of. Too tall is debatable in my opinion but when a watch extends from one end of a wrist to another...It's probably too big for that person IN MY OPINION.

Before I acquired an additional 25lbs over the last 2 years, my wrists were so small I have to remove a permanent link from an oyster bracelet.

Here is my take on the Deepsea, a lot of long term Rolex owners have struggled with the Deepsea proportions because it is such a departure from the std 40mm format even the latest maxicases have taken a similar beating. Soooo we all love the idea of a bigger style submariner style watch, BUT when we try it on in reality the size is offputting poss almost a little freakish. So we flip it and get something else. A lot of guys who have migrated from the 46mm club, Omega, TAG, Breitling and AP spring to mind, seem to take to the heft of the SDDS a lot easier. Maybe if Rolex had a track record or selling beefier (for lack of a better word) models in the past, the SDDS would be an easier model to accomodate to the 40mm guys.
I have tried one on with 7" wrists and loved it. Definately a weekend boozer having fun type of watch for me, will leave the 40mm's for the office

Completely agree! I think the DSSD and the Milgauss are drawing many customers that Rolex wouldn't otherwise receive. I like the "shout" plus the quality of a Rolex. IMO, Rolex will need to continue to please both sides.....and offer non-conservative styles, along with the traditional.

I'm a huge guy, 6'8", 350 lbs. size 17 feet with hands/wrists to match. Been called "Sasquatch" more than once. Chewbacca too. :)

I'll admit, I see and try on Deepseas when I get the chance, and I find it interesting, and oddly compelling, if anybody can "pull it off", it's me, and I start to consider getting one, but then I put my Sub back on, and feel like I just don't need the Deepsea. As others say, it's not the 44mm size but rather the height.

I did a little research, my Panerai Submersible is only 2mm less tall, but on the wrist it looks way flatter/thinner. My theory is, the height of the watch head of the Deepsea is accentuated by the relatively flat, and not very wide bracelet. it almost thrusts the head up, whereas with a still very thick Panerai, the much thicker (higher), and wider straps sort of cover and hide some of the watch head's height. This makes the Pam seem thinner and less obviously tall than the Deepsea. I'd bet, if you put a thick leather strap on a Deepsea, it wouldn't look quite as tall/thick.

Ditto, my wrists are 6.5" and the DSSD is unfortunately way too big for me! Also the AP ROO are too big, and even the normal AP RO Jumbo is ever so slightly too big with the lugs / bracelet not being able to wrap around my wrist perfectly. Panerai's also a little too big for my taste :-((((
I've a sold gold Daytona, it's got the weight, but its relatively slim and Rolex bracelets are always so comfortable ...

I am beguiled by this watch & constantly go back and forth on whether or not to pull the trigger. Right now, I'd happily swap my GMTIIc for a DSSD but just fearful that the novelty will wear off and the hit will be larger than say a Sub C given the love/hate relationship we have with this behemoth.

To the Deepsea fans: The Sub C gets nearly as much bashing, due to the fatter lugs, and blocky, abrupt lug to bracelet transition. The ceramic bezel and squared crown guards draw criticism too, so you're not alone! :)

same problem here. my wrist is just about 7 and i think that its a smidge too big for me. actually the dial size with the lugs are fine but the thickness is what ruins it for me. it sits too high on my wrist.

like others have said the subc is an amazing watch and should fit you perfectly.

Yep, a member here posted a pic of their DSSD on a nice thick strap a few weeks back. That was the first time the DSSD has ever looked good to me.
