This did'nt appeal to me , so I just had 'm made by a regular tattoo artist. I have more and really like this style. Each year my GF and me make a visit to an asian country, each time starting and ending the vacation with a visit to Bangkok. Been coming there for the last 20 years and that's the place I have all my tattoos made, it's my favorite city in the world.

So no, not just another drawing because it's fashion. I see people walking around with chinese lettering, while they don't even know what it means, let alone that they have been there. They can't even point out China on a world map.
If You visit BKK, You should go to Jimmy Wong, the most legendary tattoo artist in Thailand, "The King of Tattoo".
This is from his shop wall:

Ahem.... This is a topic I'm glad came up again... See, I don't have one, have always been a little "Straight and Narrow" in my life; Military Officer (Navy Pilot), now a (so-called) Executive... I just never got in to them (or could have any show in my professional life). BUT.... For my 50th Birthday, I promised myself I would get my favorite quote, something that means a lot to me, tattoed on my left arm/shoulder. My 50th birthday was 8 months ago... I still haven't gotten the nerve to go and actually GET it. ... Well, here's the story of the tattoo that I want to get.

I was a Classical studies minor in College, and my favorite history event is the 300 Spartans stand against the Persian army at Thermopolye, King Leonidas vs. King Xerxes. Anyway, the Spartans and their allies were outnumbered around 50 to 1, but they were determined to make a stand and hold off the invading Persians. Before the battle, (as was the custom in those days) a lieutenant of Xerxes met with a Lieutenant of Leonidas to suggest a surrender. Now, "surrender" had a different meaning back then, not only would the Spartans not fight AGAINST the Persians, but they would JOIN them, and battle against their own country men (and family and friends). The Spartan Lieutenant, Dionikus, told him what he could do with his suggestion. The Persian said: "You fool we have 250,000 troops, we will trample over you, we have 5,000 archers, our arrows will Blot out the sun!" To which Dionikus replied: "Then we will fight in the shade" (Historical note, the actual recorded quote is a bit different, but close enough to what has survived in movies and lore).

To me, it meant no matter how bad things were, you never surrendered your honor, your dedication to your family, your friends, your country. Things got very bad in my life several years ago but I endured, without ever sacrificing my honor, friends, family. This tattoo would be a present to myself, and a symbol of making it out of that terrible time. It would be small, on my left arm, out of view with normal proffessional atire, hardly anyone would ever see it, except me.

Soooooooo.... Anyway..... I've gone to the parlor more then once.... even picked out the font I want to use for the words... The size of the letters.... But... I... Just... Never... Got.... the.... Courage... TO ACTUALLY DO IT!!!!!!!

Sigh..... I know.. I know... It's... it's just a big step the first time... It's a permanent addition!!!!!! That's the thing that scares me I guess..... I don't know...

if you have been fond of this quote for ages then you should not worry. or maybe if you worry, you are not that fond of the idea of having it on you as a tattoo? you have to decide.
i personally like tattoos with a meaning and your idea would make a pretty cool tattoo i reckon.

Hey Paul,

Each of my tattoos has meaning to me, and not some abstract thing like a Japanese symbol for sword because I'm some sort of tough guy
If the quote means that much to you then go for it. As a huge history buff I personally think it's a bad-ass statement, too bad it had to be in a movie.

I would suggest not doing it. Once it's there, it's there. Deep down you really don't want to do it. I'd suggest getting the quote engraved on a bracelet, or clasp or something. That way you can always see it and you won't disfigure your body.

tattoo

Paul, I designed several for other people before I got any of mine...

My 9-11 tattoo was in memory of friends of mine who never made it home that day, and I have to say it made me feel ALOT better, strangely, when I got it. It is my shield and my deptartment, with the box alarm number of the world trade center (8087) as the badge number, with the words "WTC 403" and "Nemo Me Impune Lacessit" at the top and bottom and the numbers 5-5-5-5, which is FDNY bell code for "firefighter down"

The "Resume" tattoo I have on my other arm is the EMS Star of Life, with an MP-5 assault rifle as the Staff of Apollo (law enforcement), and crossed axes and halligans (firefighting) since I worked all 3 professions at one time or another. I added the Scales of Justice when I passed the bar exam, but made the calipers out of the Hurst Tool (Jaws of Life).

The other tattoo I have is a Hawai'ian petroglyph. It is in the mouth of the Waimea river in Kauai and reminds me of my Hawai'ian heritage.

It is something you will live with for the rest of your life. Make sure if you do it to have it done with someone who has an excellent reputation... Have you see Inked yet with Dave Navaro?

Excellent Question Mike! And one I thought about a long time. The answer is English, for those that do see it, I want to explain it's meaning, why the quote is important to me; I think it will just be easier if it's understandable.

, BTW I have 2 (one on each upper arm, covered by short sleeve shirts), both with very special meaning to me. I enjoy the few times that I have been asked about, & enjoy telling the story if someone wants to hear.

Japanese Style Half Sleeve and Back Piece here for me.

I actually love the process of "being tattoo'd". The pain and endorphins makes for an awesome natural high.
