Up until I joined TRF I had no appreciation for PP. I've known and seen gold dress models when I was a kid but never caught my attention enough to wish I could own one. I have now put PP Aquanaut or Nautilus on my must-have list.

"Ugly" and "boring" are a bit extreme, but no, the Nautilus doesn't move me either. Nor does the AP Royal Oak. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, when you consider how much I'm not spending for either of them.

Did I miss that the case is hinged? The sides of the case that flare outward like a ray (the Nautilus allusion is too abstract for me) encompass, on one side, the crown and on the other--a hinge? Does it open like a hunter case? If so, I like it. If not, then it looks functional but isn't so much (I prefer the PP Pagoda for its more cosmetic flourish).
To me the batons and hands look 70s and so do portions of the bracelet--they work well in concert and convey a sense of the "modern", but in 2012 make the watch look "old fashioned" without seeming "vintage", a characteristic that, to me, elevates many Rolexes and Pateks into potential classics. The case bears similarity to the Royal Oak, but the facets have been sublimated by curves and the screws banished for propriety's sake. Patek would never accept the quirkiness and bling of a Royal Oak. The Nautilus appears more "finished", reserved, patrician and also dull, which is exactly what Patek and its customers want. |

Nope - not my cuppa. Give me an old Oyster any day, and for a fraction of the cost.

We should call it the Tardis 'cos at first glance it sure looks thicker than 8mm.

On one side I agree, as I said the same thing about the RO and made a thread asking the same! On the other side, if it will bring back it's money when sold, its better than money in the bank for sure!

To each their own, I think the nautilus is incredible. However, like Sam, when I get one it will have a moonphase.

I think that the 5711 is a simple classic understated watch which I can appreciate, but my favorites in the Nautilus line are the 5712 and 5726.

i love most watch brands but I think PP wins for suit wear vs a rolex
But that's just me and this is coming from a guy who's into rolex more than PP Personally for suit i'd go for a Lange1 in platinum. My PP looks too small on my wrist |
