Funny but I got an almost identical comment from someone about my 116619. "Damn! I thought it was real" and I just let it roll off my back.

Yep. For a lot of people, including those that spend thousands on a Rolex, it really is just a watch.

(This in no way excuses the rude behavior observed at Starbucks.)

I think some people are defensive when they realise a stranger has spotted that they have something very valuable on their wrist.

strange guy, at the very least he could have been polite if he didn't want to get into a conversation. If you see me in starbucks feel free to compliment me on my 16610 and I'll buy you a latte, life's to short for hang ups. anyway you wear a handsome watch so take his comments with a pinch of salt

You should have bet the price of your watch. Seriously, because it was a public offense.
So you tell him: I bet the price of a Submariner my watch is a real Rolex. And then you grab your I.Phone or whatever Smart Phone, you reach the Rolex official Web Site and you show him the LV Rolex pictures. Then, you do not demand the money, you just shout out in the crowd that he is a jerk.

A friend of mine did so in similar circumstances.

In my opinion, watch conversations should be left to GTG and here on TRF.

Most people don't even know what they are wearing and others think you are going to slip it off their wrist and steal their watch......

What a very odd reply to a very polite comment. Further proof that money doesn't buy class.

That person at Starbucks needs a good dose of humility.

X2. I know I'm the only one in my family that notices watches. My grandfather, dad, and uncle all have Rolexes but don't know anything about them or notice them on people's wrists. I don't comment because of this and I don't want comments on my watch out in public. Personally if everyone thinks my watch is a fake that's ok with me. still no need for a comment like that.

Too bad you were treated that way. I recently saw a nice datejust and when I commented on it the guy looked at his watch and then looked at me like I was an idiot and said "This is a Rolex!" I just walked away. Not worth explaining that I used the model name.

Rude...maybe he's the one wearing a fake sub and didnt want to strike any further conversation with you so as not to embarass himself.

You've got a cool watch and know what it's worth.

This is the kind of Rolex wearer that makes the non-Rolex wearer think we're all bad.

It sucks to spend money on something decent and have some fool give you rudeness. Having said that, "Haters gotta hate, potatoes gotta potate". When someone tells me I am wearing a fake, it gives me the giggles. Seriously, wear a nice watch for yourself, first, last and always, ignore all stupidity. After all, if you only wanted to know what time it is, you'd have a cell phone. Hee, hee.

Good photo! I'm thinking of going for a 116610LV, but I have noticed that it frequently fails to look as good in photos as it does in the metal; that's not the case here, though!

Until I came on this site a few months ago, if I saw a Sub C I would have thought 'Hmmm... that looks a little off..'

I have not been in an AD or looking at Rolexes since I bought my 16610 in 2005, so if it were not for TRF I'd be ignorant also.

But I would not have shown it by opening my mouth nor shown my a$$ at his ignorance by lowering myself to his level.

No sweat off of my back. I just thought I would report my experience here. I am surprised that others on here have had similar experiences. From now, I'm just going to keep my mouth shut.

Good thing you weren't wearing an Oysterquartz or a Tru-Beat or some other "obvious" fake, or he really might've given you a piece of his mind.

We're in here discussing things like ref #'s and dial variations, but the average Rolex wearer doesn't know the first detail about the watch he's wearing.
