I was on vacation in London in November of last year and had no issues at all. Now, most of the time I was wearing a coat as it was cold, but while riding metro or bus never saw anyone looking at my watch when exposed. On the contrary, I saw some very "posh" people using public transport. Felt very safe!

I kind of have a rule - when traveling with my family I usually wear my Rolex as I know I'll be in safe areas mostly during the day. When I travel with my friends only, I usually take my Swatch depending on what city we visit as it is more likely I can find myself in risky situations.

The areas around there are known for prostitution, drugs and other bad stuff. I'm an American and the only trouble I ever had was with a gang of teens who tried to steal my brogues.

Temple Bar and the other "touristy" areas should be fine as long as you don't have too many pints and try to pick a fight in a chipper.
There are very very few areas in Dublin where your Rolex would feel even remotely threatened. Venturing off O'Connell Street into the so-called drug and prostitution infested streets is not one of those, if you exercise some common sense. Going to a renowned touristy area like Temple Bar - well, do the math. London is one of the safest cities I've ever experienced at night, even after midnight in Central London. Don't wear a sign on your forehead that you've an expensive watch on and you're pretty much set for anywhere in the world.

Biggest risk to your watch is hitting it off the overhead lockers taking your hand luggage out of the plane...

Nothing is ever 100% safe. Ever.

Get insurance. Enjoy watch. Call it cool.

By the way, I have some very special plans for this trip - if everything goes as planned I promise you I will post some really cool Rolex photos here (trust me, you will love it... )

Best regards!

That's the most definitive answer so far!

Mind you, be careful as 35% of the time it's unsafe some of the time!

Safe in dublin

I wear all of mine in Dublin every day (not all at once!). You are safe as long as you dont go looking for a bum down a side alley and wave it in his face

Was there just a few weeks back, and yes absolutely, unless you tell everyone what you are wearing, than it might be a problem. :)

don't wear your watch in London, leave it at home. If you want to know the time, look at Big Ben
or just ask someone with a rolex what the time is

Here in Dublin your Rolex won't even be noticed. If it is they will think it a Fake.

Criminal types would not know a quality watch but would notice expensive cars,
Id say you are safe if your stay in the main areas and not the seedier parts

Enjoy your trip.

I'm not from Dublin but from Cork, about 250km's away (The real capital of Ireland as we proudly like to think ) ... Stay within the city centre and you'll have no hassle, head out to certain suburbs and I'd wear long sleeves just to make sure you don't draw unwanted attention. Saying that there can be unwanted characters around anywhere of course so be careful which ever part of the city you're in... Oh and don't forget to check out Weir and Sons on Dublin's Grafton Street... Ireland's heaven for the watch enthusiast

I agree with the major sentiment on these ridiculous posts. Wear your watch everywhere! My 1680 has been on my wrist since 1975, in and outside the US, on tops of mountains and 100 foot under the sea. Any monkey that tries to take it is going to get shot, stabbed, or punched in the face and kicked in the balls on the way down. Learn to defend yourself and exude danger. No one will F**k with you.

No problem with London with my Rolex 16710, other than stopping at the plethora of Swiss Watch stores and the Burlington Arcade looking for more Rolex to sneak home.

This thread has run its coarse and wearing a Rolex or any other watch is as safe as this world today will let it.
