Your Grandfather did well with you giving his values to you and having you listen to him over the years. I sure would like to see a few pictures of that beautiful timepiece on his wrist at his 80th. You did good grasshopper!

Your grandfather sounds like a very good role model for your family

And what a generous gesture from you, with much thought going into it

Am sure he'll enjoy the Milgauss

Thanks! Unfortunately I have a new computer now since his b-day and don't appear to have any photos on here to upload of that special day. I will have to ask my relatives who were there to see if they happen to have any saved. Should I find any I will certainly post them up!

Thank you all for the kind comments.

I was feeling a bit down this morning thinking about losing him, and revisiting this thread has really picked up my spirits...

Wow; wasn't here for the original post but just read thru. Very sorry for your loss but so nice to see that you had an opportunity to share some special moments together these past few years. Crazy how a bunch of gears, springs and a hunk of steel can "absorb" so many feelings and then continue to reflect them going forward.

The day finally came a couple months ago that I dreaded and the Milgauss is now back in my possession. :(

My Grandfather left this world peacefully on May 17th, 2016 at the age of 83 in his home with his wife of 59 years and son at his side. Unfortunately I was not able to make it in time to say my last goodbye (though I had just been with him about 2 weeks prior).

His health really took a turn for the worst after his 80th birthday and became wheelchair bound, spending his last couple of years with 24 hour in home nursing care. He was quite the fighter and overcame many health problems and surgeries up to the very end, but I am glad he has found peace and is no longer living a life of suffering.

He still wore the Milgauss every day since I gave it to him, even though in his last year he wouldn't move enough to keep it wound up. But even with it stopped and having the wrong time most days he would always check his wrist and smile.

My Grandmother gave me the watch after we buried him, and I will forever keep it in his memory.

RIP Grandpa Klaus

It was a wonderful gift; I'm sure he was both touched and very proud!!!! I'm very sorry of your loss!!!!

Christian, No reason to apologise. This man was very special to you and in the end your remembrance of him is all that will matter. The only thing any of us have to leave behind when we go is the help we gave to others.

Cool story thanks for sharing.
I'm sorry for your loss. I wish I had time to really get to know my own grandfathers myself. That was a great gift and it is really cool that you could share that passion with him.
