For some reasons or just my eyes, 422 looks a lil bit smaller on the wrists than 372. i have to go to try it on (have not tried it on yet, since my AD don't have it in stock). They're both very beautiful watches. i have to own one of them soon.

Mike,
While waiting for my phone to get fixed today, (mandatory 2.5 hrs@ sprint) i had some free time, sooooo....to get out of the heat i wandered into the local Panerai boutique to try on some things, my impresions were: 1)the 372 dial was cleaner & more balanced. 2)the 422 was noticebly heavier (sales person said it was due to the saphire crystal & i guess a bit of the slightly more complicated movement) But here is the monkey wrench, i also got to try on the 127.... 3)the 127 won me over! Dont know if you have one or considered this, but it was lovely! And is now occupying my daydream time

Awesome pics folks!
I'm leaning towards the 422 because of the sweeping second & sapphire crystal. |

I've got big love for the 372.
For me though, the 422 embodies the historic look of what we all love of the brand but adds the modern addition of the sapphire , seconds hand and the PR indicator. Combines the best of everything Panerai with a modern shake. 372 has the most representation of the DNA we love but the 422 is right there with it. The 372 does seem to wear slightly lighter than the 422 but nothing major. And to a previous post - yes the 127 is incredible and I love everything about it, but for 20k I still prefer the 422 regardless of price but an extra 10k in the pocket is nice. 372 or 422 - can't say anything negative about either. Buyer specific. Two of the best modern representations of the brand. It all comes down to your wants. Loving all of the pics and posts! Great thread! |

And a few more to show that the 372 is a versatile, classy, and every day kinda watch. 1st photo on a Wotencraft and the 2nd on a Toshi.
Cheers!

Having just gone through the same decision I can tell you that in the end it was the dial of the 372 that won me over...the simplicity of the 12 - 3 - 6 - 9 is perfection. Adding the seconds complication does not enhance the balance of the dial. The PR on the back of the 422 is a nice touch...but not really necessary. I have some concerns about the plexi but they supply an extra one (that can be installed for free while the watch is under warranty) and it occurs to me that every Rolex grail diver has a plexi crystal and that no one would be interested in a double red sea dweller with a sapphire crystal. So why shy away from plexi in this case? From a purely aesthetic POV, the plexi is amazing, it might be half as durable as sapphire, but they supply two with the watch, and there are thousands of grail watches out there with plexi that seem to be doing just fine.
