Granddaddy or Great Granddaddy?

Dave, does it say "Pan Am" on the back by any chance?

(I'm probably way off on this one.)

No, Pan Am not on the back. I don't think the original 6542s made for the pilots had logos of any kind relating to Pan Am. But then, I'm not a collector and not very knowledgeable. Just read that somewhere. It's IV 1958 vintage.

Well, the last 21 years or so would not be very interesting. It laid in a drawer for most of this time because I didn't know what I had. I knew it was a Rolex, but that was all. I wore it to Bangkok three or four times and that's it. In 2002 I offered to give it to my brother-in-law who wanted a Rolex but he refused it because it was too old and he bought a new GMT instead. I saw a 6542 auctioned off on ebay for several thousand dollars so I dug mine out to see if was valuable. Surprise, surprise!!! It was a IV 1958 the same as the one on ebay. I learned about the reference # and serial # location here on TRF.
As for the first 28 or 29 years I wouldn't know. It belonged to a construction worker and it's obvious it was being worn due to the replaced insert and minor scratches on the lens, bracelet and case.
The only interesting thing I came across was a watch with a serial # only 38 points different was listed for sale by a vintage watch business in Versallies/Paris about two or three weeks ago. They had to have been made the same day or or close to it.

wow..nice coincidence Dave...that watch must be a lot of value now..but i believe a vintage, if you like it and can keep it, is priceless :)..enjoy your beautiful GMT :)
