Growing up I had an uncle who wore a GMT Pepsi. Fell in love with the look and always said I would own a Rolex one day. Ironically my first was a Sub 16610. I did recently get the Pepsi I always wanted though.

Great post. I got my first one after hitting a certain income level being in straight commission. I got my second one when I got promoted to my current position within the company. I loved Rolex from the very beginning. No one in my family had one growing up, but it was just a goal of mine to get one.

I'd just had my third (and last) child and wanted to do something for myself. Because baby, it's all about ME!
(Just kidding... any stay-at-home parent knows that it's all about those small people with big needs... big, never-ending, now-not-later, 24/7 needs....) |

Because you never hear rappers rap about Brietlings, Omegas or Panaries....
Also, I was in Church(Catholic) back in the mid 90s and the Priest was sporting a Blue Face Sub Mariner!! Back then the Sub was probably one of the bigger faced watches in the market.. The whole mass I was focused on that watch!! haha..I knew I wanted one after that!! |

A very special occasion, and a long lost, murmuring dream I had when I was a young man watching Magnum PI. That scene: young Thomas saluting his father started it all.

I wanted a really nice watch. The brand wasn't written in stone.
Along Jewelers Row, I happened upon a 14000 AirKing with a white dial. The script Air King on the dial had me hooked. I didn't buy that watch; it did not fit right, and the seller seemed to try to sell it without adding the missing link. From there, I found a classic 16264 black stick oyster TOG. A New England seller had this safe queen at a great price. |

After 18 years of faithful service my beloved tuning fork Accutron quit. I bought a Seiko and it kept excellent time but was BORING. One evening while waiting for my better half to visit every store in a mall, I wandered into a jewelry store and I wandered back out with a DJ.

My Father and his friends were survivors of the Second World War. Most of them had IWC watches that were manual wind but some also had Rolex watches. IWC was a prestige watch but they were fragile. One universal watch comment that they had, was that Rolex's were the most durable watches out there. Some actually survived the war on their wrists. One of our family friends was a watchmaker who serviced watches for the major brands on contract. He loved the practical durability of Rolex. There was never really any doubt that I would own a Rolex. Just when I would own one.

My father acquired one when i was 5 or 6. My fascination started then. When i started work after graduating, i started my research and obsession with Rolex.

This site! after being on the fence for years, once I joined and started reading and gathering more info. And seeing some incredible Rolex watches I was hooked and had to get me one. My first Rolex was the new green Sub C. Man what a watch. The dial is simply amazing and I was hooked. My latest purchase was a new Black Bay. Should have her on Oct. 1. Purchased right here from David.
Have a great day! Tom |

I was reluctant at first because I was under the impression that Rolex was an "old man's watch". I was looking for a respectable, recognizable brand with substance in its history. I turned to brands like omega and breitling. While other brands had some of those traits Rolex had all three. Plus I saw the Rolex Explorer and I was pretty much sold on Rolex.

I grew up always knowing of the brand, when I got married my wife got a diamond and she let me get a pre-owned sub from a family friend who was a jeweler at a great price. I sold the sub to help with a down payment on our first house and my wrist went a year and a half wearing a Luminox. It was killing me going from having a Rolex on my wrist to something else. Recently picked up a SD and a GMT II Coke. Love them both!

I never really understood Rolex's. I walked in the my AD just to cross Rolex off of my list. I was looking at watches with more of an edge. I live big faced watches. I went back a second time to officially cross them off my list. And this time I couldn't put the DSSD down. It is on my wrist now and I love it. And now this website has reinforced why. Besides the overall look of the watch, knowing that it does not lose value the same as most other watches, just made it more of a balance sheet move. A business parter has already said I could throw the watch in on a future transaction. It won't happen. But it is nice to know that monetarily I have not really lost anything. Rather I have the ability to wear daily a great watch and proudly I have instantly bought something worth passing down to my children. Where is the downside? (besides the uncanny desire to buy another one).
