Is it safe to swim with a classic?

What is best a custom Rolex or a Rolex that is stuck in custom?

Buy a professional camera and you´re a professional
photographer, buy a flute and you own a flute.

The beauty of Rolex for me is the heritage, and how the brand has evolved over the years with innovation, while still remaining true to its roots. My taste happens to be classic and timeless with many things including watches. The classics are just that, classics. However, marrying the classic style with modern innovation such as glide lock, ceramic, and other features to some is interesting. I happen to be one of those people. I'd jump on a Pepsi Sub C or a Root Beer. I have my opinion, and you have yours. That's the beauty of this forum.

I don't mind a lil pot stirring every now and then. Sometimes it does get a bit redundant around here.

But I disagree with Mr Tooomey. I say bring 'em back! Maybe not the actual styles and the cheaper bracelets, but bring back some of the nostalgia that made Rolex who it is today. Almost all Rolex watches have moved towards more bling - ceramic bezels, PCLs, watches bigger than 40mm, and even watches made out of platinum. None of that really bothers me, per se. But I look at some of the older watches and they are beautiful in their own right and were built for a purpose - not just to be a luxury product. Now a Submariner is over $7,000 and GMTII comes with a ceramic bezel and polished center links? And you can't buy a Rolex chronograph for less than $10,000. I'd just like to see Rolex take a look back at the pioneers who wore their watches and made them famous in the first place and make watches for people like that again. I guess that's why I find more appeal in the older watches.

Well it seems that the classics really aren't "resting." Lots of people own panda 6263s and old Pepsi Gmts. They are still serving their owners and by no means resting.

This is well put but it is just a luxury item these days at those prices. I can't see them ever going down in price and I like that.

Some great posts in this thread!

To each there own...

Don't get me wrong. I really like the newer stuff, too. Sometimes bling looks good. I just don't get the sense of nostalgia and adventure coming from the newer models.

You should read the hole thread.

By no means do I mean put your classics to rest! I just meant I don't know why anyone would want rolex to bring back anything that has been retired.

Many people don't agree and that's ok but there are many of us that feel the same as I do

FYI. I think the Paul Newman is one of the best looking rolex's ever but that doesn't mean I want rolex to bring it back.

It sounds like some of you are only reading parts of this thread and have know idea what I'm trying to say

Rolex does not need to and should not "bring back the classics" because in my opinion they are still making them!

If anyone needs to bring them back its Omega, they changed too many of their classic watches too quickly. I love that they still offer the Speedmaster unchanged nearly.
