Your watch presents a bit of a conundrum since it's model/name is almost always printed on the dial. If it is only 25 years old or so it shouldn't have worn the serial numbers off, but it could have; especially if it is gold.

Gold color on a Rolex means it is gold. Rolex does not paint or electroplate - gold is gold. There is a wealth of information inside the caseback as well..

Any Rolex is worth fixing up and enjoying.. If your bracelet is broken and beyond repair then wear it on a regular leather strap.

There are plenty of "professionals" here who are happy to help. They just need something to go on..
Thank you so much.

What I don't understand is why the OP is obviously going to great extent to find other pictures but avoiding to post a picture of THE watch.

I don't have a digital camera, and my cheap cell phone doesn't have a camera.

I don't think anyone should get so torqued off on a small display of humor. One has to admit that this thread is a tad silly with the lack of info. How can anyone on a forum answer this question. If you are truly interested in the watch, why not take it to someone to get checked out and appraised?

Larry, Could this around the time that Rolex made a "gold shell"? My Dad had a an old 1550/5 that is a gold shell case. The bracelet info from Rolex calls it "gold filled oyster."

Hey, it seems you need help with a Rolex. This place has some serious pros that'll tell you all you need to know just by a picture of the dial. You've shown two drastically different photos....and saying you're watch is "like" this will get you nothing as any comments will only pertain to "that" picture posted.

If you're serious and need assistance you've got two options: 1- take it to an authorized ad or Rolex service center, 2- post pics as required by individuals here who can help on line.
The easiest would be to post a pic, be advised that a Rolex service center may keep the watch if it's a fake, so they say.

I'm skeptical of this whole story but I'm reserving judgement for now.
Let's see this thing and be done with it, I can't stand mysteries.

In the context of this thread we were discussing 80's era watches and newer, although it seems to be taking some twists and turns.... Rolex did make Gold Shell cases in the 70's and earlier.. The gold shell that is wrapped and formed around the steel core which is quite thick. The less expensive models may have been gold shell, such as the Rolex Precision and Dates of the era..

I have to say that the longer this thread gets, the more skeptical I get. Sorry, I just find it hard to believe that if the OP truly wants info on this watch, he can't find a friend or neighbor that can snap a quick picture.

Hmm.

So your grandfather, who is only 35 years older than you, received a 1960's Rolex for his retirement in 1986.

And you can post plenty of pics from other websites, fully update your profile including uploading a patriotic avatar, but cannot post a photo of something that may be worth thousands, so you are content to just toss back in the drawer because you feel insulted by strangers on the Internet.

yea. I'm sold.

Haha. He has lots of time and know how to change his avatar, after he tells us he is not very good with computers and doesn't know how to upload pics and now he doesn't own a digital camera... Haha I can't believe others are still feeding him...

like 19 years old a piece when he had his dad, and his dad had him at 19... give or take a few years on each, if I am thinking correctly

I saw a picture of some string once (not the piece of string in question, but a piece of string) and it was 19"; therefore, I can confirm that a piece of string is 19".

Hope this helps.

my thoughts , why would some one get a 50s watch given as a retirement present in the 80s , wouldnt it have been a 5500.

Well most of the gold filled or gold shell watches were sold then in the UK Canada and commonwealth very few in the USA.The gold layers were over 40 microns thick today's gold plating around 4-5 microns

You have 24 hours to post picture of said grandfathers watch preferably with a picture of your user name in the watch picture post, if no picture this subject will be closed.

I think now you owe us the apology for posting two completely different pics and not thinking that us true Rolex admirers would not find that disrespectful and dismissive of the brand and watch, esp when you are asking for our help. That is just as bad an attitude to have.
