what happens after you got your grail?

well, i have literally just bought my grail the past week, so now......

i am looking for another watch, not a grail, something in the 3-5k range - let the hunt begin! lol

My acquisition of my V Series White dial (116520) in 2009 was more about closure. i had received a SS Daytona in 1975 (6265) when i was 16yo and traded it with a 18k Daytona (6265) for a 1957 Corvette "Fuelie" when i was 22. I own other rolex 's today, but the SS Daytona means the most to me.

I believe that TimeOnMyHands has the right idea. The crusades in quest of the Holy Grail were campaigns for a type of holiness or blessing that was absent from squalid everyday life in those days. So, seeking a "grail" has to have the qualities of imbuing the seeker with feelings of higher purpose, so to speak.

So, by definition, one grail per person, doesn't have to be the same one for all of us, but should be close to the ideal of only one in existence. Discussion is academic, since likelihood of finding that incredible rarity and having the circumstance to make it available to oneself is unlikely at best, or really should be if one is true to form.

Watches are a great thing to enjoy. Please consider seeking things in your lives that are truly important, and use the watches to unwind from the hard struggles.

If you were to buy it in one fail swoop due to a lottery win or sudden windfall it would lose half its magic and just wouldn't be the same. It's happened to me. The quest alas is just as important as the achievement.

That may be true for you and some people but not for everyone. That hasn't been my experience when buying a few at once. I appreciate my pieces when I wear them, and they continue to be magical.

You enjoy it every day and every time you look at it. Still lust over other watches but never willing to replace it, and once that changes it's not a grail anymore.

At this point I don't even know what my grail is... Because I do the 2nd option, acquire then search for another one. If a grail is a watch once you buy you will never like other watches , then I have no grail...

Why is that? A grail can't be a centerpiece? Having a grail means you won't ever drink from any other cup ever again? That doesn't make sense to me.

A grail to me is the watch that makes you smile, very wide smile. Ok, be giddy with joy too. I don't think that once you get it that you are done. The opportunity might present itself that your grail might come at any point in your collection. Of course if you aren't planning a collection then you are pretty much done I guess. I have a vision of what my collection will look like or at least I have an idea of what I want. I like variety. I want a white (acquired), a black, a blue and a TT dressy watch. I want each watch to be different. My grail is the black dial which is next on my horizon. I still want to finish my collection as I have envisioned. The search is by no means over. Unfortunately, Im not looking at inexpensive brands either so I am trying to make wise choices.

Saved for a Seamaster Pro, that was supposed to be it for me until I got very sick, after diagnosis it turned out I had caught the Rolex bug and purchased a Sub-C! This had become my grail after looking at pictures of her in magazines, shops and internet forums, it was supposed to end this madness and I would be in love with her forever!!! Within a year we divorced, the Sub-C went and the DSSD moved in, eventually it became lonely so I picked up an Explorer II Polar to keep her company! Peace at last? No I decided to start a family and add a Hulk, the LV dial was stunning and it became my new grail, months went by of saving and waiting whilst drooling over pics then he arrived! The perfect trio and happy forever? Not quite - crap now the Daytona is on its way and I am starting to find the 114060 VERY attractive, more so then my original grail the Sub C LN due to the perfect dial, no cyclops, perfect Submariner aesthetics ....... :)

Would be nice to get rid of one of them but they are all different and I love them all!!!
