Apparently the "rumblers" had nothing better to do than check what kind of watch each volunteer was wearing. I wear my Rolex all the time, and have never had anyone comment on it one way or another, probably because there are so many "blingy" $10 designer watches out there now. Wonder what they would have said if you told them it was just a fake?

Make the directory of the food pantry where you volunteer happy... never show up there again. Your services are clearly not wanted.

Wow, there's rumbling because you were wearing an LV? I'm shocked out of my mind those people even know what it is. Seriously I would ignore your director. It's total nonsense and it's not like you had a gold Rolex on.

Continue the good work.

I see both sides of the arguement, but I'm siding with those that say you did nothing wrong. You're taking time out of your day to go help, everyone including the director should be more appreciative of your will to help than what is on your wrist.
I commend you for giving back to the community

Agree with the common sentiment. You did nothing wrong and don't have to change anything, but I suspect you will should you return there. I mean you got up, got dressed, and put on your watch like you do every day. Its not like you dove into your safe and picked out a Rolex just to show how successful you are. I rarely think about how much my watches cost. I just like how they look on my wrist. I wear them for me, and me only.

That being said, if there truly was rumbling (not just someone saying that there was), I'd have my VSA or G-shock on next time because I wouldn't want the emphasis to be on me, it would be on the people needing help.

I'll personally never forget when I had to sell my Bluesy back 10 years ago due to hard times. Live and learn I guess.
I'd wear my Rolex. If the director and some other volunteers "rumble" about it, I'd find another charity to volunteer my time. I wear a Rolex every day and volunteer locally and some internationally. In order to help the poor, you need not be poor yourself, nor do you need to be a hypocrite while doing so. I have to say that I believe the good director is more interested in teaching you a lesson in politics than he is concerned about the feeling of the people that you are giving your precious time to help. Remember, you can always get more Rolexes, make more money, etc. But your time is the one commodity that you can't replace or increase. Thank you for your kind generosity to less fortunate!!!

I'd rather think about the positives like you helping out rather than the negative of wearing a Rolex. They should know that as someone who can afford a Rolex, you didn't have to help out but you did.

Keep it up and don't be dissuaded in wearing your Rolex as well, you worked hard to get one.

The more money spent regardless of what it is on, the less money will need to be given.

After reading this, I've got serious doubts about any "rumblers"...sounds like the director has a problem with it and doesn't have the guts to speak directly to you about it.

Hiding behind "rumblers"=middle school behavior. IMO.

The poor - rich divide is getting to a critical level now. 80 of the richest people now own more money than 3.5 Billion of the worlds poorest.

So what? They have more money than me too. So does the 80 richest people in this country and the 80 richest people in this city. Thats the way life works.

Your compassion for helping others is the key here. Your intentions and heart are in the right place. Be true to yourself, reflect on how some may have felt and continue on.

What you do shows a kind heart. not enough of that in the world, so keep at it regardless of what someone says.

Also, there will always be some a bit resentful or hostile ion any crowd. I guess you found that person. Just don't let it change who you are and what you do or their resentfulness will rule you.

That said, wear a Timex next time. LOL!!!
