Wear what will give you the most confidence to exude. I'd definitely go with the smurf.

Given that this is a Rolex forum, it is not surprising that many will respond that it is "acceptable" to wear a sports watch with a tux, but it all comes down to the basis of the original question. Naturally, we are all watch fanatics and are free to wear whatever watch we want, whenever we want, but given formal rules of dress, it is not appropriate to wear a sports watch with a tux, IMO.
I'm sure there are some who wear cowboy boots with a tux as well, and quite possibly look good pulling it off, but that too would not be the norm.
A thin, preferably precious metal, two or three hand simple watch, IMO, presents the best look while sporting a fine tuxedo.

I agree with you on your perspective on sport watches and formal wear. Indeed boots are another issue. I have been to numerous Black Tie and Boots galas --including inaugurals--where a fine pair of Luccheses or other custom made cowboy boot is expected---it's a Texas thing.

Back in the '60s, James Bond wore a "James Bond" with his tux!

Between cowboy boots and formal pumps with silk bow ties on them, give me boots every time.

A couple of large vodka martinis and you're away!!!

Have great evening.

Correction:

If you are ACTUALLY a Submariner, then a Rolex Sub is acceptable with black tie. Anchors Aweigh!

As for boots and formal wear in TX, well as the philosopher Lovett once sang:

That's right, you're not from Texas / Texas wants you anyway

Well, if it is for black tie, you shouldn't wear a watch at all.

Wearing a dive watch with a tux is like wearing tennis shoes with a tux. You can do it but it looks out of place

To fit in with the black theme I would rock the black Sub-C. I think its classy....James Bond would do it.

I was the best man at my friends wedding and I wore my bright-colored GMT and snuck my Rolex cufflinks on instead of the boring ones that came with the rented tux. I think only one other person noticed and they thought the cufflinks had something to do with crown royal.

If you're wearing a Tux then you can wear anything you want I guess, all rules have already been broken by the 'Tux'!

If however you are wearing a Dinner Jacket, then a pocket watch is a must; my personal choice is an early 20th century Dent Pocket Watch.

Us British chaps can be a bit funny about things such as this, much like leaving the bottom button of our suit jackets undone. It's probably all a little silly, but it's just the way we are.

Settle down, Lord Grantham.

Edit: There was already a Downton Abbbey joke in this thread? I'll see myself out.

Who needs to wear a watch?

Simple straightforward black tie and no watch. Less is more.

With the choices you have I'd go with the sub c with black bezel. DSSD would bulge way too much for a tux. But I do agree with those who say a thin dress watch is more appropriate in those situations. I myself would rather wear a JLC Master or Reverso over a Sub even if it were white gold.

Wear the one you like the most, personally I hate thin delicate watches and give a rats behind on social conventions. If I were you Id wear the DSSD.

These questions always drive me nuts. Ascots, fedora vs.derby, morning coat, dinner jacket...and don't even get me started on spats. I'm damn glad I'm not Cary Grant in some 1950'a movie. Then I would be really screwed.

How about wearing a Tux and Shorts to a beach party? : )

My wife and I attend a Barefoot on the Beach Party in La Jolla, CA each year and the dress is black tie, shorts and barefoot.

Wear whatever watch you want. Your style is your style! I prefer my DD when in a Tux.

If you are short the cummerbund consider a tux shirt and a solid regular black tie. When I do this I add a custom 18k gold and silver belt buckle with matching your cuff links and tie bar.

Wow this thread is still going. I'm not trying to be snobbish or anything but all these talk about wear what you want and references to a fictional British spy somehow being the standard bearer of all styles and propriety makes me wonder if we have lost some of the civility in our culture. There is this thing called good manners and observing a dress code being one of them, that's why the op is wearing a tux isn't it. There are some places gentlemen will not be allowed in without a jacket and tie, well than again there is "no shirt no service" at the other end of the scale. I was at supposedly one of the top restaurants in town with my wife the other evening and there were people wearing jeans and t shirts, slouchies ( and I really don't care what brand name their apparel are and how much they cost) and talking away on their phones only to take a break to order their food.
It's a free country everyone can do what they want but not that they should.

I think it would be a tough fit to wear a DSSD under a tux shirt cuff. I know I can't wear my ROOs with dress shirts that fit properly because of the size, so I wear smaller pieces usually.

That being said, I can count the number of times I need to dress up during the year on one hand usually. Likewise, I can count the number of times I wore a tuxedo in my life on one hand!

One is not supposed to wear a watch at all with a tuxedo IIRC, because one is not supposed to be concerned with time during an event that requires a tux.
