SubC doesn't do it for me either, but then I also prefer the old friction bezels to the clicking ones, so I am a little behind the times.

I do like the SubC, but the SD is a fine watch indeed, Date, no cyclops, tough built, and I prefer it over the DSSD. So if the current look of th SubC and it's new technology doesn't win you over, i wouldn't blink to switch to a SD. You obviously like the general style of a diver...
But then again, if you can swing it, keep it for your kid and hope it will be enjoyed by a future generation. How many out there are chasing good birth year watches... |

Get the SD....I have a SubC as well but I wear my SD a lot more and prefer the older style lugs also.

Clearly, as efforts are made to try to maintain a high price for used 16610. But try to get a discount for 116610 to see if you guys could obtain it? Everyone is admired by the brilliance and magnificence that follows the Sub, ceramic, but clearly resellers still have many units of the old model.

I guess that I am lucky in that I never owned a sub with the smaller lugs. I am totally happy with my 3.

If you have the opportunity to get a brand new S-D, I say go for it. You won't regret it.

I am very happy with the 114060. The older ones that I tried on didn't look right to me and didn't feel right. The 114060 felt like what I expected a rolex to look and feel like. The lugs and case size and presence is perfect IMO.
People don't always accept change, but its a matter of evolve or be extinct and this to me is a perfect evolution. |

On the fence for this one, but slight preference for the 16610.
But the reason for that preference is solely from a practicality perspective that the 16610 can take more abuse as a tool watch like a tank as compared to the 116610. Not saying that the 116610 cant, but just very costly replacements and a constant feel of taking care of the bezel. Its scratch proof but brittle. I personally wear my watches almost thru anything, so the 'tank' part is a prerequisite for me. Love the upgrades and new look. But if I have to choose 1, maybe the 16610 by a slight margin. Whichever, you cant go wrong. |

I really almost have to force myself to wear my 116619 WG ceramic sub. I like it, but I much prefer ALL of my older generation subs / SDs and wear them 98% of the time. Different strokes for different folks. I personally don't see the ceramic insert or new bracelet as an 'upgrade'.
I do wear my 116619 though because it is my most expensive watch. It is my special occasion watch and I do love it. I would have bought a 166xx sub if they had made it in WG rather than buying the 116619.

Yes, I definitely thought about it, but I don't care too much for Chronographs. I would be able to stomach the idea though for the Platona.
Don't get me wrong.......I would probably be fine with the new ceramics if the older style did not exist. I do like my 116619, but I just would probably like it better if it was just like the 16610LV, but WG and the same blue bezel insert color and same dial color of blue.

I've never measured the new Subs, but for some reason the proportions of the 114060 are very pleasing and much more so than the 116610.
As for the SD, I think that finding a NOS specimen is quite a lucky find at this stage of the game and if you're not thrilled with yours, it certainly wouldn't be a bad idea to pursue an agreeable deal. For those who denigrate the aluminum bezels and the "tin-can" clasps, one would be hard pressed to find a design that has been more successful in any industry.

The lugs are the one and only reason I haven't picked up a SubC. I'm okay with the maxi dial and ceramic bezel, but for me the wide lugs disrupt the flow of the watch and ruin the aesthetics.
As I've posted in a couple other threads, I recently stumbled upon the exact watch I'm looking for—a 2008 or 2009 (M- or V-Series) BNIB 16600…at an AD that doesn't even sell Rolex…for $7,250! I put down a deposit more or less immediately. So you can guess what I'd recommend here: Unless the price on the SD is insane, go for it! |

Is the new Submariner selling compared to the older style, if sales are down Rolex made a mistake by changing its size.

16610 gets my vote (pre rolex rehaut). Just simply elegant for a 'tool' watch.
The SD is a very close second. |
