IMO nothing else quite has the same mystique.

I agree in part, alot of (older) guys that wear DDs aren't really into watches like we all are here. They just want a really good high end classy looking watch and a Rolex Day Date is a just the thing.

The kind of guys I see wearing DDs don't seem the type to post on internet forums much. Not because they don't know how or anything, they just aren't into it. They're the type of guys that don't wear flahy Italian suits, but rather more conservative English suits. The type of suit that doesn't jump out to the average bystander, but yet gives off a kind of "quiet cool".

Or, even if they are just wearing shorts and a polo shirt, the fit and finish of those shorts and shirt tell you that it is not your average store bought shirt, bought something that came from a taylor.

They are the type of guys that drive a nice Mercedes, or even Bently or RR, when they could be more flashy with a Ferrari or Lambo, but they just don't care.

I guess to sum it up, the kind of guys that I have seen wearing DDs are the kind that appreciate luxury for what it does for THEM, not how it looks. They don't care about other atches, and movements, and holograms or LECs or CRBs. They just want the best of the best for their own interests.

Now, I'm not saying that us WISs are bad, or that we are trying to impress anyone. Honestly, I really don't know how else to explain it other than the guys I've seen with DDs are generally very wealthy, cool, and keep to themselves. They don't seem to be the type to join internet forums. Cool?

Thanks Watch Lady!!

I ve wanted one of these for yrs and yrs and then one day I took the plunge.

The reason I ve balked on this watch is because we have no heirs and when we pass the watch would go to the first person who finds me i guess.

If i had kids i d have a legacy.

So, I finally decided the Coroner or EMT guy will probably get it off my wrist and thats ok with me.

If not them the state of Fl would get it.

From the second I got this watch I have been enamored with it. Pateks, Panerais, A.P just dont do it to me like the YG DD.

I made a great decision and will love wearing it for years to come.

Because I know alot of guys, not into watches but have a YG Day Date. I personally don't think it's an old man's watch, more of a well off man's watch.

Perhaps I don't look often enough, but I've seen them at $8000-$10,000, but not $5,000. If they are that low, maybe I will take a look.

I like them though I think I would go with WG so I wouldn't stick out too much.

With the price of gold hovering at close to $1000,, and the 18 carat being 75% pure there are approx 5 ounces of pure gold in a rolex. (180 grams = 5 ounces)

Meaning there is approx $5,000 worth of gold in a presidential.

I know the watch itself and the name Rolex accounts for some value on top of the gold.

Case in Point:

I cant believe you can buy a DD gold rollie for $5,000.

I would say $7500 and up

I don't know if you can group all DD owners in one category of wealthy. I currently drive an 8 year old pickup truck, but I've owned a Q45, a Corvette as well as a '71 Gremlin X when I first got out of college and I do not count myself as wealthy. I'm just a Structural Engineer that appreciates fine machinery and fine cars. I bought my DD 20 years ago pre-owned with a company stock distribution probably equal to 2 months pay as a gift to myself. I have a friend in the car sales business and the Rolex is king around car lots, where I learned from him about this fine watch brand.

I inherited my YG DD from my father when he died. It is an amazing watch which, when I was eight, hooked me on Rolex. Because of that watch I have had nothing but a Rolex since I was seventeen. My dad's DD is my only DD, but I want one day to have a Platinum.

I think the DD with a white roman dial is my favorite combination. I also like the champagne dials, blue dials, black dials, geez I love them all!

The president bracelet is just such a classic look.

It's not 'crazy' it's just an observation from personal experience, personal experience that just might happen to be different than yours. Personally, I know just such a person who has a DD and isn't really into watches anything like the enthusiasts on this site.

Your statement "only when needed" seems to connote that you decide what is needed and what is not on this forum. However, that is far from being the case. Also just so you know for the future antagonistic or insulting remarks towards another member are never 'needed' or even desirable.

What is needed is for people to respect others opinions and not call them 'crazy' or otherwise generate bad vibes, with remarks made in upper case and in a mean spirit.

Your single word replies after moderators having tried on several occasions to instruct you on acceptable standards together with your lack of contrition is unappreciated.

So for a couple of weeks you can have a holiday from the forum just to consider how you might, if you choose to return, conduct yourself in a positive, respectful manner.

I love my DD and it was only the thought that I would have to flip it if I wanted to buy the W/G Daytona that made me decide not to sell. As I knew that in the long term I would regret it.
I know that in the future I will sell and buy other Rolex watches, but this is one watch that I hope never to be without.
You don't have to be wealthy to own a DD, but everybody has ambitions and this was one of mine, from a very early age, plus you only live once!!!!

I was just kidding with you; but I don't think you can say something quite like that and not expect some (hopefully civil) criticism. I don't think you meant anything bad in what you said; in fact you probably meant well; or so it seems to me.

I don't question your observations; but I do question your conclusions; especially about "the kind of guys" you see. I don't think they're necessarily the "kind of guys" you conclude they are.

And in closing, for effect, I'd like to add I made this comment on a forum on the Internet; notwithstanding a closet full of conservative cut Brooks Brothers suits, a book case full of Japanese Rolex magazines, ownership of a YG DD, and 55 years on this Earth!

PS And, oh yeah, I jog everyday in my war against gravity; and I like to think of 55 as the new 45. Of course, Americans today refuse to grow old. Why grow old when you can pretend to be young? And with plastic surgery, exercise regimens, improvements in medicine, and so on, we can hopefully enjoy each other, beer halls, the gym, watches, and the Internet even longer than once thought. A Day-Date just makes it all that much more enjoyable!

I do have to disagree with you on a few points, Brandon. Of the two people I know (myself and my friend) who own YG DDs, we both drive a Lexus, neither of us is super rich (he's reasonably well off, I consider myself upper middle class), and neither us buys bespoke suits (although I do happen to prefer Zegna suits). I'm not sure why my friend bought his (although he is somewhat into watches, as evidenced by his recent purchase of a Breitling); I got mine because I love the brand for it's history and quality and because I happen to love the style of the particular DD I got.

Bottom line: it's tough to make sweeping generalizations based on a random sampling of a few people.

But thanks for starting the thread. It made for a healthy discussion (with one notable exception who has been temporarily sidelined ).

I have the poor man's DD, which is the DJ. I love the case, the 36mm size, and the feel. Although the DD is much heavier due to FG. Although I like the DD, if I had 20k, I would get a (1) SS DJ Fluted Bez, Jubilee Band, Silver Baton dial (2) SS Black TOG (3) SS DJ Blue Dial, Roman Markers, Fluted Bez with Jubilee band all in one invoice. +/- a few hundred.

You know, it might be. I've never seen it close up. I just figured since it was all gold and he is "well off" that it is a President.

Regardless, the two watches are similar enough in appearance that it doesn't matter. To call either an old mans watch is a little misguided I think.

I seem think Bobby Flay wears a DJ and so does Emril.
Now I do know Jimmy Johnson on Fox Sports wears a YGDD just like he did when he coached the Cowboys. That and the weather girl Jillian Barbie (no rolex on here but who cares make it my favorite pre game show.
