i offered to buy each of them a nice watch for their 21st birthdays, all three of them asked for a newer iphone instead....did i raise them right or did i drop them when they were children one too many times?
i didn't mean to make light of the generosity of your gesture, i hope it didn't come off that way and if it did, i truly apologize. enjoy her while she's young, they grow up waaaay too fast. have a great day

I enjoyed your post. Interesting, how your kids were more interested in an iPhone then a watch at 21. Understandable, considering how centered our lives have become around "smartphones". A watch might seem irrelevant, at least compared to the necessity of the latest, greatest iPhone. By the time I give my daughter her Rolex, who knows what the latest technology will be, or what it will be capable of? I hope the watch will have some meaning for her, though. It will, at least, have a story to go with it. You're right about them growing up too fast...I can't believe she's seven! Hope you have a great day, too! |

If you REALLY loved her, you'd get her a Day-Date!
Just kidding. I still can't believe that I lost the watch my Dad gave me years (well, DECADES) ago. So I'm sure that, 50 years hence, she'll look at that watch face, and think of yours. Nice job, sir. |

Amazing gesture! She'll hopefully appreciate your love of watches and understand the enormity of your gift when she's at that right age. You're a better man than me... I use my son as a reason each time I buy myself a watch, it'll be for him one day after all;) I doubt you'll want to wear her watch to often

Give it to her sooner rather than later. 13? 16? Let her enjoy it when she is old enough to appreciate it.

I think it is a really thoughtful idea, and shows a lot of consideration. When the day comes and you give her the watch you both will share a special story. At that point I don't think it really matters what the watch does or what is the latest technology. I am sure she will appreciate the gesture and the thought of holding the watch for her for that many years.

I get it and nice jesture. But why tie up the $$$$ now? Invested properly you could buy her one and a Gold Rolex for yourself down the road.

Wow right on Dad! That is a beauty of a watch. The blue markers just pop on the dial face! Hopefully we are all around the day you give this wonderful gift to your daughter! I know she will appreciate it very much. I know I would if my parents did something like that for me. Good job Lew!

Great of you to do. My passion for watches started when I was 7 or 8 and my mother gifted me a Swiss army infantry watch that I still have today.
My advice, buy her something cheaper soon and see if she takes a liking to watches. If so, you will know when the time is right, as you said. My money says it ain't gonna be 2029 ;) |

Good thinking! She sometimes hangs out with me while I look at TRF, and we talk about the watch pictures members post...what we like, what we don't like. My dad introduced me to watches. I was ten and at his side when he bought his Omega Speedmaster Professional. Years later, he gave me that watch before I started law school. That watch, and my grandfather's WWI dog tags are my most prized possessions... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
