Dave,

I recommend that you take a look at the following:

i am very detail orientated and particular about most things. i can honestly tell you hands down if you compare a polarized maui jim lens to an oakley polarized lens side by side you will be able to see the clarity diff being better in the MJ. im not hating on oakley because i like them and still wear them. i just bought my first MJ's a few weeks ago and was converted....

I understand that you are not hating on Oakley, tis good to debate these things. Like I said, I have never seen a pair of MJ's in the UK (They will be sold here, just that I haven't seen any) and now would take a pair of my Oakley's for comparison, the differences in most things are very subtle and without someone pointing them out can be missed, thus the reason for my question. Thank you very much for your answer.

After seeing Chip's (SLRdude) pair during a GTG in London and reading the comments in this thread I bought some MJ Long Beach, not cheap by any stretch of the imagination but ooze quality. I now see what all the fuss is about and am a convert, I'm also dead chuffed.

My next pair will be something similar to the last post. I really like the ultra light weight plastic version of the ones you have

I think my friend told me they have a 9 layer lens?
You can tell something is different because they are sort of a pain in the ass to clean. You can't just wipe them off with the Baggie. It "smears" them if that makes sense. So u need to wash/ use the special cleaning spray on them. Where the oakleys will generally wipe clean when just a little dust is on them etc

Ray Ban / Oakley, Sunglass hut USA my favorite glasses brand, For total 100% UV Protection Sunglasses, choose glasses that filter blue light. Less known than UV, it is not stopped by the natural filters of the eye and is a source of early Aging of the retina.

First thing I thought, old thread notwithstanding. When did it become normal and "OK" to expect strangers to steal anything that isn't nailed down/locked up?

We flew to Orlando a couple weeks ago and I forgot sunglasses. Bought a pair of Raybans before leaving the airport (ouch) and I was surprised how much I've grown to like them. I've been wearing Randolphs for the last few years. I keep a non polarized pair in my S550 so I can read the HUD.

Are Maui Jims still that great? I'll check them out if so.

its probably relevant now more than ever as i struggle to find sunglasses as the vast majority are polarized. With cars having so many electronic displays, heads up displays etc polarized sunglasses suck for driving because you can't read the electronics

what does everyone wear?

I have 3M Crystalline tint in all of my cars. If you’re looking for a psychedelic experience, wear polarized glasses while looking through my windows.

Funny enough I wear Maui Jim’s, no issues with my Tahoe or Q5 screens

my RR has the solar glass. I have no idea if it has an actual effect or if its in my head but i have yet to wear sunglasses while driving it. I only have polarized sunglasses so i just have been going without.

I know its supposed to keep the car cooler but is there anything to this? seems to make a difference though.

The Crystalline film keeps the interior MUCH cooler, while being damn near clear (though they do make it in darker shades if desired).

I wear Revo (1 pair) and MJ (3 pair), all are prescription.
I prefer the MJ’s by a wide margin.
As far as screen reading, I found I couldn’t read an iPad with the polarized sunglasses on but I could read my iPhone just fine. No idea why.
I bought a new iPad Pro last week and I can read that screen with my glasses on with very minimal distortion.

designer brands that don't specialize in eyewear are often not polarized. have 2 sunglasses: tom ford and bottega veneta, neither is polarized. the bottega's are actually great: solid titanium construction, made in Japan.

Ray Bans still my favorites--but generally look for vintage. Vintage Revo and Vuarnet are great glasses but 80's and earlier are the best. For modern, Tom Ford and Persol have some great designs.
I did find a great pair of RB last year at the GTG in Vegas. Modern and new but a made in Italy model 2132 with matte black frame and nice P blue/grey tint lenses.

Got a couple pairs of Oakleys for cycling. My current daily wears are both Persol Steve McQueen folding pairs, black and light Havana frames. I also have an extensive collection of Raybans and some other randoms.
