So its now time to give each other a big hug and sing that famous song

I love you
You Love me
We're a happy family
With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you
Won't you say you love me to

I have been thinking about posting on this thread but I'm afraid I may get my head shot off. I agree with the solution put forward by Jon and Barney.

That purple thing's precisely the kind of thing that's going to get your head shot off, Simon!

Could be worse, I suppose - you could have posted the Teletubbies.

Really good group of folks here all the way around. Hope it stays that way.

I think some of fail to understand what these forums truly are and I think the analogy to a vistor in another's house is quite apt.

I think some of those complaining have no clue what a truly bad mod really does. For awhile, I hungout in the Bimmerfest 6-series forum. Slowly over time it became a mod-sanctioned shill effort by those that bought ads on the site.
You know the game. "Hi, just thought I'd let you know about the great deals dealership X (his dealership) on M6s, etc." Anyone that commented on the lease rates being uncompetitive or dared to call attention to the shill was instantly banned from the site. Many people with thousands of helpful posts gone instantly. That's bad moderating in my view, but the site was a business and not a public service.

TRF mods are fine with me, but if I get p*issed off I'll leave. This isn't my house and I don't make the rules.

Now hold on there a minute, what are you trying say about the Teletubbies? I mean, give them a break, they have enough challenges to face with their careers in steep decline. I heard that Po has developed a serious drinking problem and Tinky Winky's Swap-op didn't go too well.

Just because you're a moderator, it doesn't give you the right to dis the 'tubbies.

Come-on you guys. Stand-up for the Tubbies!!!

FWIW- I think the Mods do a really good job. They let people speak their mind and reel in those that go over the top. If you want to see out of control Mods go to the Notre Dame football site. Those guys are real power hungry jerks. First they flame people that disagree with them and then they ban them. It is their own personal ND love fest. Secondly, maybe the OP should have tracked down a forum that focuses on Omega and not a Rolex forum with a minimal interest and/or knowledge in anything "non-Rolex".

The fact of the matter is that there has been no recent appointment of moderators.

I became a moderator four months ago while Allan and Larry did so in August 2007.

Since the three of us are pussycats I have to call BS on the "new mods causing trouble through inexperience" statement.

I will be happy for members to enlighten me by PM if I am wrong.

I think TRF became what it is based on the way previous moderators and members acted.

I have seen it numerous times on other forums where new moderators feel the need to exert their authority on a subject matter and impose their personal opinions (instead of trying to be objective and helpful). Most moderators have to learn to moderate - I personally think that is the case here.

In a way, I have seen that happen around here slightly (as is the case with this thread - obviously if relatively nice members are being rubbed the wrong
way, then some self-reflection is probably warrranted).

I personally think that the solution to these problems is not for the MODS to all circle the wagons and tell people to get out if they don't like it. That just seems counterproductive - sort of like a dictatorship. Of course the site is owned by one person, but I have seen a community that generally tries to do what is good for the community as a whole - and I have really liked that community in the past and would hate to see it upset over relatively small problems (in the whole scheme of things).
Excellent post I have to say.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Ok, well "recent" for me would go back to August. I was really trying to put that statement in a really general way so as to not single anyone out. Maybe I should have rephrased that with, "recently appointed mods that have (IMO) recently become very vocal with their opinions". Oh and just so I have it down, I haven't had a serious problem with any moderators and really enjoy all the interaction that I have with a few.

And anyway, I was not trying to stir up trouble just relate my thoughts. As I stated in my original post, I don't think it is a PROBLEM yet, just something to be aware of.

This whole discusion would not have occurred if some forum members were not feeling that something was going on with the mod/forum member dynamic.

And you didn't. That's why you got a very different answer to what Brendan got. Maybe you'll learn something from this and maybe you won't.

I left you out of this because you claimed you'd said what you wanted to say, but it seems you're not as good as your word. As Paulie has observed, you've got no business dictating to Larry what he should or shouldn't do. Just sit back and relax - nobody likes a back-seat driver.
