There's no comparison, both watches complement each other imo.

I agree with your reply, Thomas. I'm strongly considering picking up a coke on jubilee bracelet.

Clearly the gmt has the function advantage over the sub but the sub is classic and nothing beats it. On top of that the green made me pull the trigger over the blnr

The greatest Rolex rivalry: Sub vs. GMT
Quote:
Very nice! Don't own any anymore!? Best Haha.. Always the right answer on these boards! Quote:
Yeah! You are too good for a sub in any case! AP diver fills your diving watch needs! Cheers! Agree my friend Quote:
Thanks buddy! That would be a nice addition and Good little brother to your Daytona! Quote:
Nice! Enjoy that hulk! Quote:
Agree! Tom's the man! And not only because he wears a platinum watch (though that's half of it!)... Ha

Gmt-c was my first Rolex, I liked it but didn't love it so I wound up selling it. I later got the sub-c which for me is a keeper. I like the added heft, full satin links, clasp, and bezel of the sub over the gmt. I also feel the sub is one of the most iconic sport/tool/men's watches period end of story.

I currently have 2 Subs (116610 and 14060) and a 16710. I'm on my 2nd time around with the 16710 and the 14060. Thinking of adding a 116710BLNR too or maybe selling the whole collection to find a ceramic BLRO. I need an intervention! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

GMT is clearly the more versatile of the two, unless you diving to greater depths, the GMT has it all.

I get the premise of this thread that there is a rivalry between these two models mainly based on posts by some members who prefer one over the other. But to some extent it seems to me that this premise is contingent on seeing these watches as somehow an either/or thing, as though they are two mutually exclusive takes on the same watch. But to me they are completely different, so I have no problem owning both.
Not sure that I agree that the Sub has a "richer" history seeing as the Blancpain 50 Fathoms predates it. On the other hand, the GMT function of the 24 hour hand with the rotating bezel was first created and designed by Rolex. While I have both, I am admittedly partial to the GMT. It has what has been officially designated (by me) the coolest complication ever designed into a wristwatch. All that said, rather than rivals I see them as brothers from the same family. Of course on occasion brothers do fight.

I love both watches, but as for choosing one I would go with the GMT.
I've always loved the Sub, I became a big James Bond nut in my pre-teens and have been wanting one since then. But when it comes down to choosing one, the GMT is so much more functional. To me it's like a Sub with more features I can actually use. I love that the GMT has the EasyLink, 24 hour hand, etc. |

Great picture buddy!
The WG Sub gets my vote as its just a super cool watch! Looks like steel to normal people but its WG hahahaha which is just awesome! AND the blue really suits the sub IMO! The YG-GMT on the other hand is also amazing due to the sheer wrist presence it must have and the added benefit of the GMT hand. Both are faultless but the WG sub takes my vote this time around :) |

Shocking that I haven't responded to this thread sooner! What can I say but... I wish these came in platinum but WG + YG will do for now.

well the sub came out first and set the standard for sports watch design. Sub will always be a little more in demand than the gmt just like the Mercedes name had an upper hand on the BMW name ...

I love them both equally....therefore it is a tie and I now have BOTH!
Then, throw in the beauty of vintage, and life is VERY good!

I NEED BOTH, I ONLY HAVE THE SUB, THIS THREAD MAY HAVE PUSHED ME OVER THE EDGE TO ADD A GMT SOONER THAN LATER.
For me it is more like Federer and Nadal, Federer history style (James bond overtones) understated, uber cool = SUB. Nadal, has won on every surface tough reliable, delivers and versatile = GMT Either way absolute classics.......

It doesn't get much better than that duo Thomas
I myself wouldn't be able to decide on just one so the only possible answer for me is to have both. I currently have a Sub and I'm looking at adding a GMT again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
