To bring the 80's to Rolex and the ubiquitous TT DJ that reigned during that era (I had one), check out this article.

I remember virtually EVERY villain from the first season had a Rolex DD. Even Izzy ended up wearing one at some point.

By the way I am gonna order me some vintage wayfarers and just realized the true coolest man to ever wear Persol Glasses and a Rolex ( Don MF Johnson)

Thanks, I really enjoyed that article. I always thought DJ wore an Ebel on his show, but I guess I was wrong.

There is a new show we just watched called Affairs of State or something like that, starring Katherine Heigl as a presidential briefer/terrorist-hunter (a bit disconnected from reality), and she wore a YG DD throughout, but in the early scenes it was a female size with the thin bracelet, in later scenes it was the new large male size. Continuity problem, or my eyes are going bad. Some of the other characters wore interesting watches. One guy wore either a Sub LN or the Omega version (I could not see it long enough to tell). And yet another guy wore a blue dialed dress watch, maybe a Journe.

John, your right! DJ did wear an ebel in some of the early episodes. It was a white dialed ebel 1911 chrono I think. Oh, and btw, I still wear wayfarers!! Wearing them for years.

Not a loser at all Mathew.
Your appreciation for the 80's makes our current times
more an era of your own, if that makes any sense.
The popular culture of the decade was great for me mainly
because it reflected the unlimited possibilities of my school years.
Miami still holds a certain mystique for me that originated squarely
from the 80's. If I'd ever move from So Cal, that's were I'd like to go.

[QUOTE=Silvio Mosiello;5412444]I would do ANYTHING to live through the 80's as a teenager. I fell in love with Miami from a combination of my love for 80's music,Miami Vice,Scarface and my favorite video game of all time GTA Vice City which takes place in Miami.

You play wiseguy from New York trying to make a name for yourself in 1986 Miami Florida. The game had the most epic 80's soundtrack ever which made me fall in love with it. When you would get in trouble in the game you have cops chase you in a white ferrari dressed like Crockett and Tubbs. When I played that game as a kid I though that "Vice City" didnt exist. When I found out it was a real place I knew I had to move there someday. Miami ruled the world during the 80's and the history just fascinates me. Moved here after high school at 18 ( 22 now ) and couldnt be happier. I drive around on my Vespa listening to 80's tracks visiting Miami Vice filming locations. Im a total loser I know.

Having lived and worked in Miami during the 80's and because of my job witnessing first hand the atrocities of the drug wars, the innocent lives caught in the crossfires and the cocaine epidemic that swept through my hometown I have a different more realistic view of those days...I was there to face the aftermath of the countless murders and shootings that ....sure it was exciting because I was young and enjoyed my job ..but Miami was a very dangerous place in the 80's far less glamorous then portrayed on a TV series...but isn't that the way it always is

Its almost hard to pinpoint what it was! As horrible as the crime here was in the 80's ( this city was built off cocaine everyone knows that ) there is something intriguing about it. I was attracted to the money, the flash, the breathtaking skyline, the pastels!! and the whole lifestyle of this city. It really is the magic city

Did you ever see the movie Midnight in Paris with Owen Wilson? In the movie he loves the 1920s and wishes he could be from that era. He goes back in time and meets a woman who, interestingly enough, feels the same way, but about the late 1800s. He couldn't believe that somebody from the era that he thought was perfect would want to live through a different era. The point is that nostalgia is powerful and I feel like a lot of us feel like we belong in a different time. Personally, I am in love with the art deco era and would love to have lived through the roaring twenties (maybe not during the time that followed, though.... unless I was loaded. )

Personally, I am in love with the art deco era and would love to have lived in Los Angeles during the 20s-40s. Everything about that period is amazing to me.

When you mention being in the wrong era I know exactly what your talking about!

Im surprised Miami doesnt appeal to you since you like art deco! Miami has its own art deco week and is full of buildings from the 20-40's. What is interesting though, in the very early 1980's architect named martin horowitz wanted to make Miami less dark. He decided to repaint as many art deco buildings on south beach pastel colors to differentiate the city from the rest of the world. It keeps people in a really good mood.

This is also why Michael Mann wanted no earth tones on MV. This is why pastels were everywhere and old buildings were actually repainted just for particular scenes to make miami look crisp and vibrant.

Heres a link

To further emphasize my point look at all the pastels at night in Miami. I just snapped this on a foggy night on my balcony.

no, Crockett had the YG Ebel from season 2 on a wave bracelet and from season 3 with the 1911 bracelet.
Switek had the Steel-gold variant.

Ebel was the big sponsor back then ;)

Sobering observation, no doubt.
It's true, the TV show influenced my perception of the city at the time.
I was, however, much attracted to the vibrant Cuban-American scene
and the then still thriving sport of Jai Alai. My uncle was a professional
Jai Alai player who played mostly in the "fronton" court in Tijuana, Mex.,
but was occasionally invited to Miami for competitions or would often
square off against visiting Miami players. It is an amazing sport to watch in person, IMHO.
Anyway, wish I had pics to post to return to the OP's topic.

I am currently at 485 W matheson drive. A historical house used for lots of miami vice episodes ( the great mccarthey) and was also used in scarface as frank lopez's house. The land used to belong to Richard Nixon where he would spend his winters down here. You can see the helicopter pad is still here!

The house is just the epitome of the modern art boom of the 1980's. Ive never seen anyone home outside of landscapers and the yacht crew. There was a guy outside cleaning the phantom off though i was going to have my gf ask him if we could take a tour.

A picture of my gf and I in front of the Scarface/Miami Vice mansion on Key Biscayne. This mansion was used in The Great Mccarthey episode of MV along with many others, and was Frank Lopez's house in scarface. The property has a giant helicopter pad as it was Richard Nixons private " Winter White House" he lived at during the watergate scandal.

Here are some additional pics

These are some scenes from Scarface
The scene where Michelle Pfeiffer is at the pool where Tony asks her to marry him

Where she goes down the elevator

Where Tony looks out the window and sees the world is yours blimp

MIAMI VICE

Don Johnson arriving on Nixons heli pad. Notice the pool is the same P shape.

Some more MV episodes

And here is what the house looks like now

A new "narco novela" just started on Telemundo called "Duenos del Paraiso" ...which is about the Miami drug trade in the 1980's......One of my wifes far distant relatives has a supporting role in it. They have the cars and clothes of the era correct so far but it just started this week.
