Got a feeling that the new Cellini will be successful. Whether its better than Patek, JLC is subjective. But its at least much much better than similar range from Cartier, Bulgari, Omega etc etc. I think that's the market share Rolex is eyeing at rather than fans of the oyster, Patek, AP. Nevertheless, if the Cellini line comes out with an Annual Calendar, something like the Sky-Dweller, then, they are heading towards Patek. Anyway the cellini line is really nice, especially the time only rose gold black dial model.

I think the new Cellinis are way too big for a dress watch.

Same size as the new Patek Calatrava 5227.

Really? It's 39mm which I think is a great size. It's modern-classic size

Those date numbers must be tiny. Are they even readable?

They were fine to me - I've seen smaller sub dials.

It is my opinion that if Rolex dropped the Cellini name and gave them a regular model name and put them in the lineup and catalog with all the other watches that say "Rolex" on the dial they would be much more popular (and hold their value better). Look at the Air King. Same issues. People think it's a "cheap" or "entry level" Rolex. The average consumer cannot afford and the WIS look down upon them.

Personal preference of course, but I think this style of watch is better suited to a smaller size, like the PP 5516.

I really like the new Cellini line but I must be honest if the price was comparable I'd go for this.

Not sure why people are comparing the new Cellini with a Calatrava in terms of direct competition. Yes, both are on the dressy side, strap bands and gold cases. However, one cost about 50% less $ from my understanding, which makes it an obtainable gold piece for the masses!

Totally agree.

I prefer this is over a Calatrava all day long - they just look a bit old fashioned to me.

I think the problem lies in the name "Cellini". Sounds feminine for a men's line of dress watch. And if you pronounce it slightly wrongly, it may sounds like "Silly". I really hope Rolex would consider changing the name of the line. Otherwise, it does not do any justice for such a fantastic line of dress watches.

It doesn't sound feminine in Europe, at least among educated people (who are the target market for Rolex dress watches). The line is named after this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benvenuto_Cellini
