I fell in love with the new Deep Sea as soon as the official pics were released after Basel. I think it's beautiful even though it has all that extra writing. I would get one if I had the funds and were lucky enough to be in line for one.

Seriously though...why all the talk about the DS fitting under a cuff & that being an issue? Lets get real, if that's a deal breaker on buying this watch, then your priorities are a little out of whack if you ask me...that's pretty low on my list of why I would (or wouldn't) purchase this watch.

If you want a $10K dress watch, then buy one (instead of a sports watch)...the DS isn't perfect...but the one area it shouldn't be knocked is its inability to neatly fit under a cuff. Why don't we start knocking some of Patek's dress watches for their inability to be a great dive watch while we're at it?!? Is there a difference?

MASSIVE! I just won't be able to wear a watch that big, but I like it... Anyone planning to get bigger cufflinks?

Nope.

I think I posted before that sooner or later we will all miss the "wearbility" of the 40mm sport models. The current Sub/SD line is a perfect size in terms of diameter and thickness.

I respectfully disagree...or better yet, I would add the following. The 40mm is probably the best in terms of 'wearbility' for the masses...only if you're talking about a 'one size fits all' number.

But for those that have a much larger wrist/forearm, I would say 40mm is a tad too small. I've removed no links from my SD/Sub & it's on the last setting, yet I wish it was a tad looser (I've debated getting another link...but never pulled the trigger). I don't have HUGE arms (6' 1", 210lbs & like to think I'm in pretty good shape), but even my wife commented the first time she saw me sporting my SD that is looked a little 'Girlie' on my arm...she agrees it's just a bit too small. For those like me, I think we're going to rave about the new 43mm size & it will become the perfect solution.

Although it looks a little big for me, it looks pretty nice overall.

Funny all this talk about how suitable (pun intended) this watch is for shirt sleeves. No talk about actually diving with it...

for me it was the best move rolex ever made
rolex was one of the very few companies not offering a bigger solution
the DSSD will be a great competitor for panerais, breitlings and IWCs
in fact i think it will bring back all rolex customers that stopped buying rolexes because they needed something bigger...and there are many of them around

now rolex has a most complete line offering all metal variations as well as small, medium, big, and xlarge size watches

I was about to order the watch, but my next dive will be to a depth of 14,000 feet. I'm going down with minimal equpment: just a snorkel and mask and my lucky Speedos. But I thought I might like to time myself, down and back. The DSSD won't go to that depth. Oh, well.

Just kidding. I love the watch. But, then, I love all the tool watches Rolex makes.

Personally, I feel any Sub/SD owner that rips on someone for sporting a DS because it's 'overkill' is a 100% hypocrite. I'm a recreational diver and I would NEVER exceed the limits of the Sub, SD & obviously not the DS. 1000', 4000', 12,800'...they're all overkill & will not be tested by 99.99999% of their owners. But so what, that's not the point.

Last time I checked I didn't see a lot of Sub owners complaining about how they had to cut their last dive short because once they hit 999' feet their watch wouldn't go any deeper. We're all a victim of buying a watch that is built beyond our need/use (w/ regard to diving depth)...a DS owner is no more guilty of this than any Sub/SD owner. Buy what you like, it's your hard earned money...that's all that really matters. Cheers.
