At the age you can afford it and feel comfortable wearing it. I wanted a YG Rolex several years before I could actually afford one and once I got one I new it was right for me.

It is a stereotype or misconception that gold watches are for old farts well sorry I mean old people.Same goes for cars ad well. As long as you are comfortable of carrying the watch on your wrist without flaunt and if you can afford, go for gold. There are various types of gold watches as well.

Me neither. Get what you like. I'm also perplexed at threads where someone states that they want a certain watch but that it's not the watch for their profession. Then they come on here seeking advice about which to purchase.

Interesting and differing views :-)
Never been a hang up for me, just never felt quite right as I've always liked the look of steel on me personally. However I'm liking the look of gold now :-) |

I was in my forties when I purchased my first gold Sub, but if I wore it at twenty, I don't think anyone would have noticed. It depends where you live and how you carry yourself.

I mean any age works, right?
However I honestly think 40+ is the perfect age for a gold watch. I'm mid 30s now, and while I'd certainly wear a gold watch if I had one, it wouldn't be my first choice. 20's? To each his own but I kind of feel like slow down, be a kid while you can... you'll have plenty of years to be an older, established, gentlemen. Wear SS and live a little... |

I think as soon as you can comfortably afford it. I could swing it but I wouldn't feel comfortable about it yet.. A couple more years, I'll be 40... I think I'll be in the right place financially then where I could make the purchase and not sweat it!

So the above is true, but some individuals such as myself may work in a place which is incredibly conservative. My company is Japanese owned.... Flash is highly frowned upon. Presidents of each respective company (international co) all seem to have the same GS , but other than that everything is extremely buttoned up. So each day I wear my Citizen Nighthawk WR 200/grey nato to work and leave all of the others in the ol watch box. Including my beloved Exp II

Chaps
Gold watches are fine but they start to look vulgar when connected to a chunky bracelet. Unfortunately Rolex bracelets are chunky and you really do have to think about where you would wear one without looking flash. You can usually get away with stainless steel as even oversize models look acceptable but a chunky gold watch & bracelet sends out all the wrong messages, especially in the business world. I would say that in 90% of cases, a gold watch looks better on a black leather strap. Regards Mick |

I have a friend who was once ultra fashion conscious and was forever buying clothes and jewelly etc. Now he wears the same stuff in rotation claiming it will all last him until he hits 100. I am going through a weird phase of buying English made brogues, Harris Tweed jackets and dull looking watches such as the Freccione Explorer2 I picked up last week. Mick |

I think you can always wear gold, but it should fit the occasion IMO.
For instance, I think gold is always appropriate at black-tie formals - regardless of age. |

I found that my watches suit what I am doing at that point. When working where a watch may get scrathed I stayed with Stainless Steel. I have a TT but wear it only away from scratch free zones
