I think this post has resolved some of my curiosity amongst fellow WIS and TRFers. Might have to put a goldy in the mix. ;)

Im 34. Been thinking about adding a 36mm day date for a while. Now I'm definitely waiting to see the new DD40. I've always wanted a YG DD, just not sure how often I would actually wear it...

I'm 25 and thinking about making a YG 36mm DD my next purchase. I don't think it matters how old you are. It's a classic.

its easy to say - fk it on a forum. its my watch and who cares but - a DD is the horological equivalent to a driving a rolls royce (its known as the president after all). a rolls can be had for camry money, but most don't know that. even non watch types know the DD as the money watch.

stats show only 7% of communication is verbal. you're your own billboard. its a statement watch where you don't always control how the message is received.

i personally don't wear mine often at all but its a purely sentimental piece to me.

good luck.
Could not put it better, I love to look at mine when I wear it, but it is the only piece that draws comments about wearing a grand dad/blingy/cliche watch (maybe it it the 36mm size as well as most wear bigger watches now). I keep mine for me, I do wear it in regular rotation, but you will get some comment so it comes down to how you feel about it, and I am 44. It is probably the only watch that I don't wear on a day I am discussing a business deal, because I feel a bit like a cliche out of Dallas, or something like that. Those days I will wear my ALS or Patek, as nobody knows what they are.

It does link back to a perception of rich retiree or something from a Hollywood producer. TV has created that perception as much as anything, the Rolls Royce analogy is a good one, one of my neighbours cruises around in an old 80's roller that is probably worth 10K, undoubtedly that creates perceptions in everyone who seems him (it draws attention and each processes it differently), even if it is cheaper than a new camry. You just have to be happy that this is others reality and wearing the piece puts you in their set of emotionally anchored perceptions, and you ahve to live with how the deal with it.

Similar age to you and I rock a WG DD; but only when I have to dress like a grown-up :-)
