I just tell my wife it's an investment and I try to get the best deal possible so that if I have to sell it for whatever reason than I can probably get most of my money back. Also I tell her any expensive watch I buy it'll be from the money I make from my investment/day trading. That's how I got my first and only Rolex (YG datejust). So hopefully if my investment/day trading pays off like how I planned, i can get my next Rolex (GMT with super jubilee) next year. It also doesn't hurt that I buy her Gucci, LV, or Prada purses here and there.

It's okay. There is only so much one can hold out. I hope the incoming is worth it!

Watches canbe expensive and flipped, but a wife should be a keeper, but more expensive to flip. Just tell her what you want to do with your watch purchase.

It's easier to ask forgiveness than it is to ask permission.

It's the watch that you can wear every single day of your life and not worry about, or it's the watch you can put in a safe and have it rise in value year after year. The Submariner is, in my belief, the quintessential timepiece for many. When my mind thinks of the word 'watch,' it is a Submariner I see."

My plan is that I buy what I want when I want since I have the trust fund.

The way I explained it, If I buy a Daytona for $10,500 wear it for 5 years and then sell it for $10,500.....I'm not really spending money....I get to enjoy the watch for 5 years instead of just watching the $10,500 sit in my account....

If you have to explain it maybe you shouldn't buy it...

making solo decisions and/or zero communication with the wife? Good luck. Admittedly I'm new to marriage, but I'm gonna stick with making decisions together, thanks.

You're setting yourself up for failure. Buy yourself a $20 to $30k watch when money isn't an issue. You have a hulk you just got months ago, enjoy it.

Some of the guys we shoot clay target competitions with (Trap Shooting), leave the house with an empty gun case and come with their new shotgun. It works for some, but not for me as my wife also shoots. Some Trap shooters are afflicted with the same desire for the grail of shotguns as some of us are with watches. Good luck with your plan.

how is this setting myself up for failure?

Also, not sure how up to date you are, but my original plan was to hold off on buying for a while and spend about $15K-20, $30k was not even discussed, nor do I find myself realistically eyeing a watch within that range.

If you are totally up to date on the thread, you'll see I just made a purchase, so my plan fold (admittedly). So which direction is setting myself up for failure? Keep in mind also, I have a few watches of decent value, if I ever decide I MUST have a PM Daytona or AP RO, I can sell my small collection and easily buy almost anything I want. At the moment I am enjoying having options.

So what exactly is your point?

btw- Totally enjoying my hulk! Every day.
