They are both gorgeous, but a sports watch will always beat a dress watch for me...

I prefer the DD40 because it shows the day and the date!

Flying airplanes. They were made for PanAm pilots originally.

I must admit, I didn't expect the DD 40 to beat the Platinum Daytona. Especially here. Shocker

To the OP.there is no wrong choice, but you need to see both on your wrist.
To my 50 year old eyes, one looked better than the other(completely different on the big computer screen). I originally wanted a Daytona, but walked out with a GMT.YMMV!

Hope to have to make a similar decision soon!

Yes, I have seen two Platonas in the wild, one at the barber shop the other at a tire shop. one week apart.

I also have seen 528, 520 quite often, but never a 509

Having not see either in person, I don't want to vote, but this is a tough one. Strangely before the SS ceramic Daytona, I would've said the platona 10/10 times, but with the ceramic bezel on SS models, it actually lessens my interest in the platona slightly. I know I might be crazy, since it's still platinum, but that's how I feel. For instance I'd probably take a SS Daytona and a RG DD over the platona now, and I don't think I would've said that previously. I still lean towards the Platona just given the choice between these two.

DD40 !!! Never understood the choice of the brown color for the bezel and subdials of the Platona.

Gotta be the 116506 for me. The DD isn't versatile enough as a casual daily IMO.
