I sat down next to an elderly gentleman. "It's to busy for me in here" he said, we chatted for about half an hour. In the end I had to leave, he held out his hand; " a pleasure to meet you- my names Wally- "
The do was in his honour!

A couple of years later, at another do for an Antarctic trip we had done, I was seated next to Sir Wallys wife: she wore his GMT Master..
Great Advert...I always wanted a Rolex and when the time came I chose a 1991 Rolex Explorer 14270 with Lug Holes. It's been on me ever since and it's still fantastic.

Thanks to the OP for posting. It was seeing these adverts in old National Geographic magazines as a kid which ignited my interest in the Rolex watch. Now, as I wear one, looking at some of those adverts here now makes me feel blessed that I am wearing one. Thanks again for the trip down memory lane!

Superb thread! These ads are incredible and were clearly a very successful marketing tool for Rolex as in all likelihood through the years, they spurred on many a person to buy a Rolex! Would be great if they went back to this approach though I expect this is unlikely given their move away from the toolwatch concept towards a slight different market?

Yes, very interesting..
As much of the adverts feature the GMT, explorer 2 white dial, or the sub or sea dweller..

Did you say which model Polar Explorer you prefer: the 40mm or the 42 mm?

Anyone else watched the Rolex present series on YouTube.
"South face Annapurna" is truly stunning, along with "Deepsea under the Pole".

i like these adverts with personal stories. i really dislike the new tudor marketing strategy though. its everywhere, magazines, websites, etc. the ads also seem like they're trying way too hard. specifically the new north flag ad.
