I don't have a 15400 (have a Jumbo) or a black dial Daytona (have a white dial Daytona) but as much as I love the Daytona I would take the Royal Oak.

Great shot! Both look awesome.

I really do feel this watch is perfect for every day. I am really just trying to build a 3 watch collection in the near future that will tide me over until I can go really big.

AP 15400 - daily/work (own)
Speedy - nights and weekends (subject to change if AP ever comes out with a SS diver with a ceramic bezel)
JLC MUT Moon - dress/work
What is really big, JJ?

My "really big" would be your "normal" watch purchase.

Who knows for sure, but right now I define it as something north of $15k. No idea what it will be right now, because I have several financial goals I want to hit first - so it will be awhile.

If it were today, it would probably be either: RG DD40, Lange, or PM/FC/Ceramic ROO.

The biggest down for me on the Rolex is those PCL's. I know some of you guys love 'em, but I just can't get over those things. So, AP for the win.

I think you misunderstood me.
You are saying the same thing as me. The "who you rub shoulders with" comment was referring to the fact that you will be disappointed if you are after exclusivity, as depending on the crowd, an AP can be as common as the Rolex in a different crowd. I know a few AP owners in the DC area, but non are WIS'ers or know about TRF, or care to post pics of their watch on the internet.
Not sure about the Sub being "almost common as the potholes in the winter" comment, as I also live in the DC area. Nevermind the DC area, the Sub is probably the most common watch here on TRF.
That said, does that make the Sub any less desirable?
Obviously not to me since I own one...

One is an elegant watch the other is sportier.

The finish is unparalleled with AP

Nice choices, always good to have goals.

Actually I have only seen 2 Royal Oaks in DC since owning mine for almost a year..... A lot of offshores, but few Royal Oaks.

You 'll get there JJ, before getting my sub 4 years ago I thought putting more than 3K in a watch was crazy or you needed to be very rich, not my case I just extended enormously my watch budget more than reason, then got a Pam 233, then a daytona RG, then my Patek then a more expensive Patek 5726, not saying every watch I bought, just the major ups in price range, so what seems crazy to you today won't be tomorrow But I got all of them for very good prices BNIB...
