Rolex is the brand that every other brand tries to knock because they are such a threat to their sales. Rolex has a long and STRONG history which can be very intimidating to other manufacturers. Also, for people who can not afford one it makes them feel better to knock the brand. Regardless of what other's say - I'm proud to wear my Rolex!

It's a DD with what looks like 3-5 karat custom bezel.

There are 2 different things here to be considered.
1. One is Rolex history, innovation, quality of the product. That cannot be denied. 2. Many ppl out there buy the Rolex as a statement that they made it somehow. They don't know much about watches but they know Rolex as a symbol and they use it. Because of these ppl Rolex gets the hate. Obviously, us and many others see Rolex in a different light and from a different perspective. See point no.1!

My experience is that most haven't owned one and many of the haters who have owned bought used unserviced and never had it serviced. Thus they have a watch with no power reserve or that never keeps time. Most of them gawk at paying 500+ for a service. That's where I fail to understand. You spend over 500 on tires, many of us spend more than 500 on a tuneup for our car but we fail to maintain other mechanical items such as our watches or refrigerator or HVAC system. What I don't get about that is why we maintain a depreciating asset but fail to maintain something that holds or maybe even gains value.

If you want to hear hate spewed forth on this forum, it's pretty easy... just mention Hublot.

Better brands? Maybe, maybe not. Other brands? Definitely yes.

I dont think its hate for Rolex. I think its people preferring other watch brands more. For instance, i'd take an Audemars Piguet, Breguet, JLC, Breitling or A Lange Sohne over a Rolex any day of the week.
I personally would only use a Rolex in a business meeting when you need to show a client you are successful at what you do (ie: not everyone knows about the depth and breadth of luxury swiss watches available). Otherwise, many of the rolex designs are a bit 'old codger' looking IMO. Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk |

I used to be a hater - opting for the slightly lesser known brands instead - but in time I came around. I like Rolex because it simply works. It is the AK of mechanical watches.

I left rolex for a while and bought some other great watches - iwc, jlc, gp, etc. But I came back to rolex - it's just a tough, bullet-proof, nicely made watch. I like the finishing and exhibition backs on other watches, but there's something about putting on a sub that can get beat up on the golf course or beach/pool and then go straight to work. A rare ability. Kind of like the porsche of watches; there are better cars at doing each individual aspect - handling, acceleration, image, exclusivity, but few average better when considering all areas.

I cannot get the bad rep against Rolex out of my head...as used in the film "Die Hard"
White Knight:....have you seen her watch...its a Rolex you know... Willes: ....I am sure I get to see it later.... And later is when he unlocks it of her wrist in order to drop the bad guy, hanging on to her, with it..... |
